With RBS its worth waiting until you hear from them as you can see by the above posts as they will reply with an offer. Although you sent your letter to your branch all complaints are dealt with by the relevant department.

I wrote to RBS on April 12th asking for statement info but havent heard anything from them. They cashed the £10 cheque on 5th June, anyone had similar problems with them and should i go to the information commissioner?

You can certainly complain to the ICO but you would be better asking your local branch and/or the DATA Protection team to check what has happened to your request.

Can you confirm the number for me? I've just tried to do this, using the number on the letter they sent me (0845 3030442), but they didn't seem willing to budge. They just said if I didn't want to accept their offer, I would have to continue with the court case.

Was that the correct number to ring? And would I be better to send a letter, so I can take a copy of it into court with me?

    Thanks,
    Stu

Is that the correct number? I've done a couple of searches and can't find an alternative. I think the address matches the ones I find on here :s

(Royal bank of Scotland settling quicker!!)
just thought id let people know that myself and my boyfriend are both claiming charges from the royal bank of scoland, mine total £1047 and my boyfriends total £474, we both sent our letters requesting it back on 10th June, we rang last week 22nd june and asked where they are up 2 and they told us that were both getting the full amount refunded and that we would receive the offer letter on or before 15th July, they told me that they are settling within the 40 days allowed!! so fingers crossed that if you are awaiting a claim, it should be dealt with quicker than the have been!!

    Stu,

I always use the 0800 0155 035 number and they are helpful and polite. That number was given to me by the branch. I don't use the number on the letter they send out.

    And to LiviLad,

Give them a call in about 4 weeks to ask how your claim is progressing. They might be able to tell you that everything has been sorted and are just waiting to send the letter out. I called 2 weeks ago (after 3 weeks) and they told me they were offering me the full whack and would get an offer letter by 19th July (their letter was dated 23 May) which is the 8 weeks that they are allowed by FSA. Give them the time and they will most likely pay out without fuss. All the best.

    Excellent, thanks for that!

I've just realsed also... and this is my own stupid fault, but they've charged me 2 seperate amounts of £76 in the last 2 days for 2 missed payments.

As a quick background... I recently changed jobs (i.e. 2 months ago) and up until this week I wrongly assumed my pay day fell on the same date. It was only when my money didn't appear in my account on the 24th I started to make enquiries at work, to discover I now get paid on the 27th.

For the 25th, I had a standing order of £610 into my mortgage account (from where the mortgage comes out on the 4th of the month, so that's safe), and also a car loan repayment of £130. They seem to have tried to take the money out of the account on the 25th when the funds weren't available,
but then charged me on the 25th, and again yesterday... both of which have put me over. Now, I thought that the charges used to be deducted the month after, or on a date some time after... not on the actual date the payment is missed ???

How do I stand with these charges, given that I'm part way through an on-going case (due for court)? Should I just forget about these recent charges and get on with the case in hand? I don't want to jeapordise or delay my case any further by bringing up these latest charges.

Needless to say, I'm a bit disappointed with the bank for charging me (and actually deducting) £152 from an account with no available funds on the day of the missed payment, whilst ongoing with a claim for previous charges... talk about trying to stab back at me! I will take this as a lesson to be learnt, but I think this will also now make me look into moving all my banking over to my other account with Lloyds TSB.
  • stubs,

Re your 2 x £76 charges. Ring your branch and ask for the manager. When you speak to them, tell them you want the charges refunding as your pay date changed and the cirumstances were not exactly in your control. They will say you should be more careful etc etc but basically blag it. I have told them to refund a few charges before now and they did it at the branch soft as you like. It might take a day or two to show on your account though. If they say that, just keep checking til you are refunded.

As for your other query about when they take the charges. From my experience it is £38 for EACH returned payment (no matter how many on the same day) and then when you get your statement you will most likely see that you have been charged for exceeding your OD limit (or going OD if no limit) or there could be a referral charge. In effect, you are charged first on the day your payment is returned, and then get hit with a second charge which is illustrated on your statement and is delayed until the following month. They are very sneaky. Have a look at your old statments to see if you have missed some of these 'extras'.

Called RBS yesterday as my 8 weeks is ip today and I have not received anything they said an offer letter had been generated and I would recieve it by next week. However I did call them 2 weeks ago and they said I would recieve it by the 27th (today) not seen todays post, already at work but going off the conversation yesterday I am not confident it will the there when I get home. Anybody had a similar thing with RBS and any idea what tack I should take.

I rang last week as the 8 weeks were nearly up and was told an offer letter had been generated for my claim received on 2nd May.
Got the offer letter this morning for the FULL amount of £4225!!!
Well worth the wait and the £1.30 it cost me to send only one letter by registered post.
As most people have said, wait the 8 weeks and be pleasant if you contact them and RBS are usually very good.
