Psychic readings....your thoughts?
Comments
-
I know someone who comes from a family who did it as a living. She's chosen not to do it as commercial "psychic readings" and is very scornful of people who do it. She is really good, and has taught me a lot about observing and "reading" people. Nothing magic, just pure observation and learning how to deduce their stories. She uses the skills from it to help people, especially severely handicapped people, and does a lot of charity work, from a practical level up to parliamentary paper level.0

I haven't read through the whole thread so I may be repeating someone elses view but......if psychics were real surely there would be no missing people in the world, no people killed in disasters or terrorist attacks and nobody would have to put up with cheating partners!! (I know if there was any way my Dad could have gotten a message to me to tell me my husband was sleeping with anything with a pulse he would have!!!)0

Yes sorry, I probably didn't word that very well (trying to type and eat at the same time, my focus was elsewhere
)
For me the difference would be that there's no obligation on the individual to pay for a vicar or his/her time. Yes of course they are paid, and that money comes from the congregation, but each person gives as much or as little as they want to and are able to. Plus each person's contribution can be anonymous if they choose, and no one else need ever know how much they have paid. There isn't a price list up front, and entry isn't barred for those unable to pay.
As I said before though, I totally appreciate this doesn't apply to all psychics. Many of them won't charge, or will charge very little depending on what people can afford. It's the 'fixed price, up front' payments for some (only some) psychics that seems a bit off to me personally.
Or an accupuncturist? A hypnotherapist? Faith Healers?
There are hundreds of people who have "gifts". Some people dont believe those "gifts" exist...whether it is hypnotherapy or faith healing...but there are also lots of people who choose to believe that such "gifts" would be beneficial to them in some way.
It could be that the benefit is no more than a laugh or two or some entertainment however these people attend "gifted" individuals willingly.
They are not forced to part with their cash. Plus, these days with the information available to us all, everyone is able to research and question the "gift" they intend to use and can make an informed decision.
People with "gifts" still have to make a living...if they didnt, then perhaps they could afford to give their services away free of charge.0 -
I haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if this has been said. I have read enough to be surprised at the number of posters who think con artists and fraudsters 'have to make a living'.0

There's an interesting and very recent article in the Guardian from 6th March about Sally Morgan's work and how she apparently picked up on planted information. I'll leave it for you to decide.

Thanks, yes that is an interesting article and quite fair in its approach.0 -
My question to the likes of Sally Morgan etc would be-
Why do you always have a John/George/Albert etc,
Why not a John Smith/George Davies/Albert Jones?
If these 'spirits' can come through and give a name, why cant they give a full one and save confusion all round!0 -
Hmmm, not sure what I believe about these really. Have been to a few over the years and been told absolute tosh - I'm quite hard to read apparently
However, there was one I went to many years ago with a friend. My mum thinks this stuff is absolute tosh, but gave us a lift there.
The woman told my friend that she had an aunt who had statues of china horses on her mantlepiece, and that this aunt would give her a sum of money as a gift (friend didn't believe her, aunt very stingy).
She told me stuff about my then boyfriend who lived overseas and said he had two motorbikes (nope, just the one).
She said she'd do my mum for free and when she took her hand said this is the child from your second marriage(I hadn't known that!) & went on to say that very soon all our family would go to Africa.
Within a matter of weeks the stingy aunt (who did have china horses on her mantlepiece) out of the blue gave my friend £500. I got a letter from my boyfriend saying he'd crashed his motorbike and bought another. My dad came home from work and said he/we were going to south africa.
Wish I could remember what else she'd said, and kept her details !!0 -
Well i've been to a few readings - I dont give anything away (always answer yes or no) and to be honest the ones i have seen are really good. I will admit I have seen a few and gone away thinking "FAKE!!"0
