When my Aunty passed a few years ago she had wanted a bamboo coffin. The funeral director wanted £800 for it. I managed to source it online for £250 and had it delivered to him.
I don't think he was too pleased but I don't think they can refuse if you wish to provide your own. It also gave me great pleasure been able to do one last thing for her (there is no way we could have afforded to pay the £800).
Yes, I have told my family that I will come back and haunt them;) if they waste money on my funeral.
Cheapest coffin possible please(cardboard sounds good to me) and to take me in our own car(will easily fit in the 7 seater).0 -

I don't know if that was meant to be humorous but I nearly spat my tea over the laptop. I have some very funny images in my head now :rotfl:0 -

I used to tell my OH I wanted my coffin in a morris minor traveller and rather than pallbearers I wanted clowns dancing their way along. I don't think he took me too seriously but I'd love my funeral to be a laugh.
My Mother in Law always made me laugh when talking of funeral costs, her words were 'do what you want with me but don't spend any money, they must do something with you because you never walk into someones house and see a body propped up against the wall do you?'
Can't really argue with her logic0 -

:)Yes I know it sounds funny.
However, I mean it. That is what I would like ideally(doubt it would happen in reality).
I once saw an alternative funeral on the tv. The coffin was cardboard(specially reinforced and all that) it was decorated with flowers(another saving!!).(very MSE)
Everyone was dressed in bright clothes and singing happy songs, it seemed like a 'nice' way to go(if there is such a thing).
I just think funerals are such a huge waste of money and are so depressing.I would rather the money was put to good use.0 -
When I kick the bucket I want to go out in style, expensive coffin, lots of flowers, horse drawn hearse and a marching band. It will be paid for with my money, and I'll spend my money any way I choose..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

There is a lot of 'evidence' Dylan - but, the ones who insist they are fake rely on the fact that 'evidence' can be faked. as in there are a lot of Twenty pounds notes around - some of which are fake! its up to you to decide who is real and who is fake! but just because there are 'fake' notes - it does not mean all notes are fake. use your common sense and IF you go for a reading - dont talk too much!
All this evidence is well-hidden.0 -
In my 20s I visited a few psychics/tarot readers and I really wanted to believe it was true but apart from the same tarot card coming out to denote me at every reading I was left with the impression they were all charlatans HOWEVER... when I was moving house one time I noticed the vendor had tarot cards we got talking and she offered to do a reading for me (for free) where she got so many things right including me marrying a Turk (at the time I was learning to speak Greek and had no desire EVER to go to Turkey) and she told me to look after my dog especially well in June. I went on holiday in June leaving my friend's boyfriend looking after my house and my dog. My dog had the runs (can't spell the 'D' word!) and a couple of days after I got back he died of liver failure. She was spot on about so many things and she didn't charge me a penny.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
Never been to one myself, but my step-daughter went to one last year. They did'nt know her and she only booked using her first name. They told her some really things that had happened in both her own and her OHs families that don't happen to many people, and came up with names that are not common in this country and relating to her OH and his family who was not even with her.She was pregnant at the time and they told her the actual date the baby would be born and that it would be a girl. She wrote it all down and showed it to me. She swears blind she didn't give them any information about herself. Think I might go to the one she did it might be interesting if nothing else.0

I would suggest that anyone who has an open mind read Attack of the unsinkable rubber ducks by Christopher Brookmyre which will shut it pretty quickly and should make you angry how these people are allowed to prey on such vulnerable people.
It is fiction but gives you numerous tips on the pyschological levers used to defraud people by woo peddlers.
All of the usual 'spooky' occurances/explanations are on this board ie
I told them nothing : Misses the point of cold reading and statistical analysis.
They didnt charge : its not giving it away for free, its called investing/advertising.
Most of them are frauds but I saw one person: 75% of people think they are better than average drivers. Most have duped themselves, easy enough for a fraudster to do the same.
they are really poor: Typical way of woo peddler creating trust, creating an atmosphere where you le your guard down, feel sorry for someone.
