Psychic readings....your thoughts?

I've just finished reading a really interesting book on the afterlife and how one woman talks of her father passing away and visiting her in dreams and sending her signs that the spirit carries on in another realm even when the body dies. The book also talks of past life.
Anyway, i've never really had a belief of what happens after death, I wouldn't say i'm atheist as I do believe there is something.....just not sure what lol.
I have decided to go for a psychic reading to see if anyone 'comes through'. A family member had one of these and everything that was said was accurate, I also had one 3 years ago and I couldnt believe how accurate it was, right down to names, causes of death, etc. She even told me I would be married later that year which also turned out to be true.
Just curious, what are peoples views on this? do you think these people are just good con artists with years of experience and if so how would that explain the accuracy? Or do you believe in afterlife? Would be interesting to hear ppls views and stories on their experiences

I think it's interesting. I've had a few readings and take what they say with a pinch of salt, then 'forget' about it and see if it comes to pass.....
It all comes down to your beliefs doesn't it? And if you're not hurting anyone where's the problem?
There'll be some posters along in a minute though to tell you you're daft, that there's no such thing as God, the afterlife, spirits and you should get a life in the real world.

I don't believe. I think psychics use clever techniques to manipulate us into giving away more information than we would believe we are, I also think we believe what we want to hear, especially in those sorts of instances.
In my opinion, it's exploiting the vulnerable.0 -
I'd give it a wide berth personally.0

I was just saying to a colleague of mine that I knew someone would post a thread about Psychic readings on here today.
Personally, I don't believe in it.
Having said that, the John Edwards fellow from the TV seems rather good (not sure how much editing plays a part).0 -
I have an open mind about this.
I have only ever been to one years ago when I went with 2 friends 'for a laugh'.I did come away from it though thinking a bit differently about it.
I have been told by family and friends that have been, some very spooky stuff, and you do have to ask the question just how do they know that?0 -
They prey on the weak-willed, stupid and emotionally vulnerable. Only you know which one of these you are, but rest assured - sane, intelligent people do not go to a "psychic" for anything other than a laugh.
The same could be said for the retailers of designer clothes and goods IMO!!0 -
I only ever went to one and I had it recorded. I rang up and booked it and left only my first name. On the day I arrived and went upstairs to the ladys room, she asked me if I was ready and got straight into it. She told me she had a lady with her, her name is Margaret and she's your grandmother. She said she is being supported by 2 men who seem to be carrying her, the 1st man has passed over recently and the 2nd passed over some time ago. I found this very sppoky, my grandmother was indeed called margaret and she had no legs (they were amputated many years before she died). My brother in law had recently died and my father died years before this. Ok it could've been a guess but it was a very accurate one. After that reading it left me a bit more open minded but im still sceptical0

Derren Brown has shown several times how psychics, mediums etc. work, and yet still people still want to visit one.
Even Psychic Sally has been exposed as wearing a hidden earpiece that relays information to her.
By all means go, but go with your eyes open......0 -

Interesting, what information is relayed to her and where do they get it from do you know?0
