Any fishmonger will be dealing with hundreds of fish on a daily basis, and as they are only human, why do you find it so difficult to accept he simply made a mistake and didn't notice that the fish hadn't been gutted?
The scales not being removed is entirely your fault as whole fish are always sold this way unless the customer asks for it to be descaled.

You had the option to return the fish, in which case you would have received a full refund, probably an apology, and maybe even have been given another fish FOC.

You could also have kept the fish in a fridge or freezer and taken it back at a later date when you were going to be in the area so you wouldn't even have had to make a special journey.

im amazed so many people thanked a un-helpful post, as mentioned they are supposed to be prepared.
Doesn't the fact that so many people thanked the post tell you anything?

Actually they aren't. Do you think a fishing boat hauling in 25 tons of fish has the manpower to prepare each one.

Fish are normally sold as caught complete with scales and guts. Any half-decent fishmonger will offer to descale and gut them for you though. It sounds like this guy in Tesco was just lazy.

Yes it does, That when customers are badly treated people here decided to look for any way to make it the customers fault / the person venting.

I don't have time to take it back, and I shouldn't need to, and If Tesco would give me a refund and apolgy that means it was the customer service at fault NOT ME. All I did was wait patiently, get served badly and come on here to say how angry that's made me.

(For the record pedants, wanting to puch someone, and actually doing it are two different things - restraing those urges is what being civilized is all about, if you don't get that time to time then you are dead inside.)

What some people have done is try to make it my fault - a logic confuddled by your post claiming Tesco would refund and replace it.

Come on let's all stop dancing around this, Tesco should shut down, burn all other fish that it owns and should definatley pay millions & millions in compensation. Thats what the OP wants to hear.

    Sound familar?

Yes but unfortunately you are going to have to be a bit more, I don't know eloquent.

Like how that in any way is relevant, given I haven't gone back to Tesco to complain or ask for a re-fund! in fact I said specifically I couldn't be arsed.

Sherlock you aint, Mrs Marple?.... perhaps:rotfl:

How about the very last line.
"Thats what the OP wants to hear"

You also appear to only read what you want, and anyone who disagrees with you or who thinks that you may have been partly at fault is wrong and you don't want to hear from them.
Post #44 is a perfect example.
What some people have done is try to make it my fault - a logic confuddled by your post claiming Tesco would refund and replace it.

But you failed to have read or understand the first sentence in my post, even though you copied and pasted the entire quote.
I clearly said that the fishmonger was at fault.
why do you find it so difficult to accept he simply made a mistake

I am not at fault for being served badly - I did nothing wrong.

You are correct that I'm not interested in hearing people defend/excuse the poor service (Note: I never claimed otherwise, and its rather presumptuous on your behalf that I would)

I'm not? I'm very happy to say he made a mistake, my bloody fish wasn't gutted!

No i didnt shout for him, I quietly waited until he turned around - I could see he was busy, when he did see me he called a colleague who wouldnt come....

this is where he should have stopped and come to serve me, or explain properly why I would need to wait and how long - I remained polite and waited and the queue grew , whats really got me angry is that after being nice when being served pretty badly I ended up with in-properly prepared fish.

I still maintain you should have called him.
I still maintain you should have expressly asked for your fish to be hung drawn and quartered or whatever too.
If a customer had asked me for something, and I were busy, then of couse I would say something - however not everyone is as 'customer focused' for want of a better expression. You get good staff and bad staff.
If it matters so much, why not write a letter of formal complaint to Tesco, istead of just forgetting about it? You may get some vouchers from them, which you could use to buy more fish!

Er ok, so once his attention was caught, what then. Well the same staff would refuse to come over, and he would have carried on as he did when he finally saw me.

To clarify, what exactly is the point you're making about me calling for him?, how do you suppose that would have changed anything?

As I pointed out before, should I have asked him to check it was dead? asked him to wrap it up, asked him to print a lable on it. At what point do you draw the line where you would go somewhere and expect certain things done without asking (bearing in mind this is usually done)

'not everyone is Customer focused' = poor service and it is acceptable to be annoyed by it.

I shouldn't have to write letters, ask for gutted fish to be gutted or post here my frustrations. Its just bad service and it annoyed me

I was really looking forward to the fish :(
