TBH, that's what I would have thought??

You must have been gutted.................unlike the fish! ;)

BTW, is THIS what you bought?? It states gutted??

    Yes that's it.

It's the reason there is no alternative view to me being served badly, no matter what Bermingham Joe and his ilk want to believe

As has been said, fish are always gutted when caught, so the person who served you may have not checked because of the fact they always come pre-gutted

Seems a bit much all this, especially being mellow-dramatic wanting to punch someone

Well I saw the fish from a distance and covered in ice, Fish chap handled and wrapped him, if he didn't notice the fish was not gutted I would really question the legitimacy of tesco havering a fishmonger sign :rotfl:

Personally I am always suspicious about supermarket staff when it comes to knowledge. When I worked at a supermarket the checkout assistants were moved to different departments if and when needed but truth is I don't think a single one of us knew exactly what we were doing on these various departments. Ok so we never became fish mongers or butchers for an hour while the tills were quiet but I would trust an independent fish monger more than any at a supermarket.

To be honest I'd like to punch someone in tesco across the face, the effort involved in returning it (I'm very busy weekdays) the rudeness when I was 'served' and the fact there'd be little care of how inconvenient the whole thing is from whomever I complained to just really makes my blod boil!

    Rant over.

And they would probably be happy to punch you back too! People have bad days deal with it.

Well if they'd be as happy to punch me as I would them then they're as bad as me so I don't see your point.

Oh and the tired excuse "people have bad days"

Crock of S***, if they're having a bad day they should "deal with it" and get on with the job.

Congratulations, you have just been educated in customer service.

  • I dont know how to ask permision to post so I appologise in advance and I havent got the authority to offer any advice on how to fix things but I work on the fish counter in tesco and I can see both points of view as to what happened and just wanted to see if I could be of any use. (just couldnt see where to ask but im very tired right now lol)

In the tesco I work in the fish dont always come in pre gutted and while I try to ask if the customer needs anything done when its busy it can be easy to forget. Customers will quite often ask me to fillet salmon and I ask if they would like to finish their shopping and come back because im still training and it can take me a while to make sure i have done it right. I agree he was very rude and should have explained if that was what he was doing but can I ask if the other person was on the meat counter or if he was on another one like deli etc. ?

If so then he couldn't come over but if he was on the meat counter then he shouldn't have been so rude and come over and served you. I would be ashamed if I spoke to a customer rudely

Next time I would take the fish back and explain politely and they may be able to swap it or refund it but please don't punch us because we really don't get paid enough for that lol ;)

Hope that helped explain things a little but please feel free to ask questions. I only want to help.

Maybe the whole problem could have been averted had you asked for a gutted/filleted fish or whatever. Also you say you were waiting for 5 minutes, did you ask him and he ignored you for 5 minutes, or did you stand there expecting him to know someone was there?

No , you said you would be happy to punch someone for a mistake which is a dreadful attitude and illegal by the way. If you punched someone, expect to be hit back harder, or even knifed! - Remember butchers and fish mongers have access to sharp ones. Easily called self defence.

Yesterday I went to the fish counter to buy a whole Sea Bass, firstly I was ignored by the only guy working that counter for about 5mins whilst he chopped up some salmon - he had his back to the shop.

He called one of the other staff members from the butcher part who flatly refused to come over and serve me, by now a few people were waiting.

The Fishmonger said he was busy!

First of all how rude, but then when I finally got what I wanted I opened it today and the fish hasn't been prepared, full of guts and covered in scales.

I don't know how to prepare a fish, even after watching on YouTube I wasn't fully confident I'd do it properly so that £4 in the bin, plus ££ on an alternative meal.

To be honest I'd like to punch someone in tesco across the face, the effort involved in returning it (I'm very busy weekdays) the rudeness when I was 'served' and the fact there'd be little care of how inconvenient the whole thing is from whomever I complained to just really makes my blod boil!
