With all due respect (which means that I'm going to be disrespectful) I consider that you received the standard of service you deserve.

Well I saw the fish from a distance and covered in ice, Fish chap handled and wrapped him, if he didn't notice the fish was not gutted I would really question the legitimacy of tesco havering a fishmonger sign :rotfl:

Wow..... You got a bit intimate with a sea bass there. Are you sure it wasn't a her?

Not all fish comes in gutted. I bought rainbow trout from Morrisons last week and they needed gutting. However I was asked if I wanted them gutting .

A polite request to gut/fillet/de head a fish to any fishmonger would suffice.

Perhaps you didn't realise that he hasnt passed his NVQ in mind reading yet

As has been said, fish are always gutted when caught, so the person who served you may have not checked because of the fact they always come pre-gutted

Seems a bit much all this, especially being mellow-dramatic wanting to punch someone

I'm afraid you don't go to Tesco for the quality of their service. What you received is pretty par for the course with them.

It's not only Tesco that have problems with their fishmongers.

Only last week I bought 1/2 KG of whitebait and when I got home I was disgusted to find that the lazy git behind the fish counter hadn't even appempted to descale or gut any of them.

No , you said you would be happy to punch someone for a mistake which is a dreadful attitude and illegal by the way. If you punched someone, expect to be hit back harder, or even knifed! - Remember butchers and fish mongers have access to sharp ones. Easily called self defence.

Now you are making no sense, you offered up an excuse that he was "having a bad day" then suggested I should accept that hes having a bad day -

No sunshine, if he is having a bad day he needs to deal with it! not the customers.

Oh and regarding the above, I was called mellow dramatic before - Id say you are now being ridiculous.

Maybe the whole problem could have been averted had you asked for a gutted/filleted fish or whatever. Also you say you were waiting for 5 minutes, did you ask him and he ignored you for 5 minutes, or did you stand there expecting him to know someone was there?

im amazed so many people thanked a un-helpful post, as mentioned they are supposed to be prepared.

No i didnt shout for him, I quietly waited until he turned around - I could see he was busy, when he did see me he called a colleague who wouldnt come....

this is where he should have stopped and come to serve me, or explain properly why I would need to wait and how long - I remained polite and waited and the queue grew , whats really got me angry is that after being nice when being served pretty badly I ended up with in-properly prepared fish.

The punching thing is not what i would seriously do, its just to show how annoyed I am that I remained nice during the whole thing and when i get home I find another part of the service has been crap as well

yes I hear what you are saying except HE (the staff member, job person paid to work) didn't politely ask me if I wanted it gutting etc as it hadnt already been done as standard.

As for mind reading (!!!!!!) its his JOB to ask questions and make sure things are right. why is it when people are given bad service we just let it go and make excuses for people.

I did it in the store, I just waited and was polite and still I get screwed over when I get home.

For the final time - The fish are supposed to be prepared - If it isn't it is HIS job to ask me, why should I 'supervise' the staff and pre-emt any possible changes to the working habbits/day of people I have hardly met

    I'm the customer! :T
