It's interesting that you haven't mentioned the conversation with him where you tell him that you don't like sitting in the back??
Also why don't you just get into the front seat? The first time just say you get a car sick when sitting in the back. Tell him after that you will be a bit more honest and say you would rather sit in the front full stop.
Have you thought about a personalised number plate?;)
If you are used to coming second all your life then isn't it time you did something about it? You are the only one who can change that but you need the will to do it. Go on- I dare you! You might be surprised at what results from it. Start with driving lessons and if you need some persuasion still- imagine telling him to get on his bike!:)

I know this sounds petty, and I quite expect a flaming, but it's something that bothers me.

and NOT ONE person has (so far) thought you deserve a flaming.

BIL always has to ride in the back of our car, whether I'm driving or Marley is. If I'm not driving, I want to be in the front passenger seat so that I can navigate!

With our car it depends on who is with us. An elderly or infirm relative would get offered the front seat, as would somebody who we didn't think would cope with sharing the back seat with the two kids (it's a bit of a squash, and they would probably spend the journey being hit round the head or babbled at non-stop). Otherwise, it would be us in the front. It's not a big deal either way.

Also, under-12s should always go in the back for safety reasons.
  • With all of my exes, it's always been the person who is getting out first sits in front for 3 door motors.

Then it's based upon who has the longer legs.

Except for where the offspring were concerned, they sat in the back and the one with the longest legs sat behind me and I'd roll my seat right forward for her.

Never knew there was an issue/etiquette with it.

But the one who was quite happy for me to pay towards the vehicle but then refused to take me or one of the children anywhere as he 'wasn't a taxi service' found his services dispensed with rather quickly.

Buy him a Chauffeurs uniform and always insist everyone who can sits in the back ;)

Seriously though he needs sorting ASAP.

Do you also get first place at the sink and the stove and the vacuum cleaner?

You bought the car and you pay out of your joint money to run it - in what way is he refunding you?

Make sure the car is still registered in your name, pack it and move elsewhere.

p.s. I don't rush to suggest that people leave their partners but I've never yet met a man who treats his partner better the longer they stay together, once a turd always a turd.

Sorry, you've married a g i t. Every single comment he makes regarding the car reeks of it.

You bought it, but because he drives it and pays the ongoing costs it's his?!? Items within a marriage belong to both partners, or at the very least to the person who bought them in the first place!

He doesn't like giving you lifts in the car you bought him???? No, he isn't a taxi service, he's a husband. Maybe someone should explain to him that spouses generally help each other out.

He makes you sit in the back because you're a woman? Is he living in the 1950's or something?

    Poor you. What a w*nker.

This, agree with every word - and indeed every person so far seems to be of the same opinion.

The only time I would sit in the back of our own car is if someone disabled/unwell needs the front seat.

I would be cautious about being too keen on using the carsick excuse - I know an elderly relative who pulls this trick and the result is he is mostly left to get the train. :p
