  • I am in the same position as you. Best advice I would give is get all of your statements for the period you have been banknig with them, since you are 16 not sure you would have an account that goes back six years that have been taking charges from. However just ask for all statements from when you opened the account. This will cost £5.00 or if they are feeling nice some people have got them free. I am waiting for mine to arrive, they have taken the fee and managed to also put me over my overdraft!!! If you look at the info provided by Martin on the home page this tells you step-by-step what to do. Start spouting 'acts' etc that normally gets them upset. Don't be put of because they will try to especially with you being younger, stick to your guns. At the end of the day you are their customer and they are there to provide their customer with a service. GO FOR IT:j ;)

  • I'm about to start the process but before I do, I have a few questions.....

    Requesting Charges Letter

    1. Do I need to send a separate letter for each account I hold with the same bank? (I have 2 with HSBC after I re-branded the business).

    2. Is there an article on how to calculate your total charges amount? That is do I add complete charges or just a proportion of them? Do I count the first charge for going overdrawn, returned Direct Debit or bounced cheque etc or just include subseqent charges? Or do I just add the totals up from either the reply or from the statements?

    I think that's it for now......I think
  • Post 8 in this thread should tell you what you need to know as you start.

One letter, one cheque for £10 for multiple accounts at the one bank although its advisable to do the claims separately.

Use the Interest Calculator in Martin's article, linked in my signature and read the Reclaim Help Thread also in my signature.

    And good luck everyone.

I am just about to make a claim of just under £4000 (very nervously) against my bank and am not clear how to send a list of the charges I am claiming against.. Is it best to send copies of my bank statements, or if I do my own list what details will they want.

I have a parachute account set up in case they close mine but I also have my mortgage with my bank and am very nervous of any effect it could have on that, if any.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

from a very nervous (just in case you hadnt guessed already)

  • The best thing to do is make your own list .

Start with the date of each charge ie 03/02/05
    then the amount ie £35
then what the charge is for ie over limit charge
then if you are claiming interest put this next

It should look something likt this

    03/02/05 £35.00 over the over draught limit charge-interest £2.54
  • The bank want a list, not highlighted copies of your statement so have a look at this spreadsheet (similar to suggested above) that Rex_Mundi links to here.

You cannot claim overdraft interest back!!!
    Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH
  • I read it that way too at first Beate but what I think deedee means is that interest is the amount of interest claimable if using the Interest Calculator.

But you are very right to point out that the normal overdraft interest is NOT claimable.
  • Received today over 6 years of charges and statements from Lloyds TSB, Question is from what day to i start counting charges? today from when i received details? or from Monday when i post letter recorded delivery?
  • If you mean when does the 6 years go back to, its from when the bank are deemed to have received your request for your info/statements.
