Making your own list is fine Stuey62. Include all the dates of the charges, what the charge is and total them. Make sure you keep a copy of all correspondence for yourself. Good luck.

Read post 8 in this thread and use the Interest Calculator in Martin's article below.

  • Well, after 40 days of waiting for my bank charges to be sent to me, finally 16 letters turned up on one day!
15 of them were duplicate monthly statements, and the sixteenth was the banks reply. - they said the only format the bank holds the information i require, (charges & fees) is statements.
They also said they waived the £10 admin fee for producing the info (very kind!).
Not all of my statements were sent out, and they weren't in chronological order! They are going to be sent out in 'batchs' apparently.
Basically this means more waiting, I still have about 30 statements to receive and I'll have to go through my statements with a highlighter to work out the charges myself. <sigh>

Once you have highlighted your charges input them into the Interest Calculator, as per post 8, in Martin's article with the date, description and the amount and this then gives you a list that you can send to the bank. Don't send off your statements with your claim as these will form part of your defence at a later stage.
  • Thanks for your advice I have just received my old bank account number from Natwest. I don't know how much they took in charges but think/hope it was just less than a thousand pounds. So when I write do I just say charges rather than a fixed amount? Also the reply has come from customer services rather than my branch. Do I write your template to my ex branch in London or the customer services department in Southampton?

    Thanks in advance.

    Don't estimate your charges.

You have to make the SAR request for your statements before writing the prelim letter to your bank.
Hamsters have no tact and diplomacy, nor do they want any.

As Kurt says, don't estimate, start at the beginning and follow the tried and tested route using the template letters on MSE.

I've got in abit of a mess in the last 2 months. Have a free overdraft of £1000 that I have never used in the past but over the last couple of months it has been used and I have just gone over the limit 3 different times, so therfore 3 individual letters have been produced and bank charges of £30 each time taken from my account. Can I still use the Martin Lewis template letter to claim this money back, or have I miss understood the purpose of this.
if this is possible can I :
do I write to head office or my local branch
As I have the letters and statements to list the dates etc that it happened do I have to forward the £10 or just go straight to sending the letter

I donot intend to happen again but if it does can you claim each time or is this a one off thing

are the Halifax quite understanding in cases like this.
Thanks for your help as I have none else to ask.
