PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

Hello, I wonder if anyone can advise.
Briefly, my husband had a PPI policy with an old mortgage policy with Nationwide. That mortgage was arranged via a broker but he didn't request the PPI as we were offered it for an initial period for free (the first 12 months I think), we then continued it. My husband had a very generous scheme at work covering long term illness and death.
We've sent the forms to Nationwide and they replied saying they don't feel they're to 'blame' because a. the mortgage was arranged by an intermediary b. although my husband declared he had alternative cover through work, he didn't specify what that was (don't remember ever being asked by Nationwide to provide this information) and c. the policy would have paid despite him having other arrangements.
I have the feeling they are trying it on but not sure how to proceed from here. Advice would be appraciated.
Hi
Are they saying that the mortgage application was set up by another business (intermediary)? if that is the case you pursue them.
I would write to them and enclose a copy of the letter you received from Nationwide, so that they do not try passing the buck back.
You can keep at them until a final decision have been give, they should also enclose details of the financial ombudsman service (FOS) in the final decision with a leaflet on how to complain to them.
Keep at them, good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
I'm pretty sure I had PPI when I lived in London. Unfortunately when I moved over 10 years ago I had a bit of a clearout of paperwork and I have no paper evidence that I did have PPI and I can't remember who I had it with. Is there anything I can do, eg sent a speculative letter to the company I think I had it with (who I still bank with)?
I know it's a very long shot but I thought there would be no harm in asking.
Hi & welcome
Do you know how long ago you settled the loan?
If it was settled within the last 6 years, a credit report for £2 may be of some help, as this will give details of lenders etc.
I cannot recall if its Equifax or Experian who provides data up to the last 10 where mainly it usually the last 6 years.
So what you could do is give them a call and ask how far they go back before you request a report, check which one goes back to about 10 years.
Google the above credit organisations in and they will come up with contact details as well.
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Thanks for replying - the mortgage was set up by another business (an IFA) but I don't think he set up the PPI. From memory (I'll have to go through the paperwork we still have), we have had this offer through from Nationwide for the free PPI for X many months. I'll check the letter they've sent again to see if they state it is their final decision.0 -
Quick question please. Would you send a accptenance letter for the refund by Recorded delivery or just in the pre-paid envelope? Sorry didn't have to accept one yet and one always hears of the stories that these letters get lostLBM 11/2009 Total Debts 11/2009 £44624 with DFD 2015

So I rang them again yesterday for an update and my claim has now gone from case handler to QC department, couldn't give me a answer over the phone but and I quote 'It shouldn't take long now for a letter' but wouldn't give me a time frame.
The funny thing is, its for an active loan (well 3 more payments to go), so I feel for anyone who is claiming for an old loan.
Know how you feel i was told last week my was with QC and i have 6 payments to go.0 -

I'm really fuming with Santander now!!!!
Brief history...
First claimed using the old letters on this site 2009
Didn't receive a response so
14/1/12 complained again using ppi questionaire on here
8/3/12 received a letter saying they had already given their final response and would not investigate again
8/3/12 phoned to ask for a copy of their previous response as i hadn't received it
12/3/12 received a copy of their response saying they upheld my complaint and offering £2700
12/3/12 phoned to ask if i could still accept and was told yes, send in signed acceptance form and marriage cert as proof of new name and i would receive the cheque in 14 days
12/3/12 sent signed acceptance by first class post
26/3/12 phoned to see what was happening and they said they hadn't received my response so i asked them to send me another copy
30/3/12 signed and returned 2nd copy of acceptance by signed for post
16/4/12 phoned again to see what was happening and they hadn't received my acceptance (again after royal mail telling me it was delivered on 3/4/12) They said they would send me another one and to fax it back to ppi complaints manager
20/4/12 faxed acceptance form and marriage cert over
23/4/12 phoned to check they had recieved my fax was told they had and i would have the cheque within 14 days
16/5/12 phoned to find out what was going on as still hadn't recieved the cheque and was told they had everything they needed but for 'some reason' it hadn't been passed to the payment dept and they would sort that straight away and i would have the cheque within 48 hours
23/5/12 phoned again today as i though 48 hours was maybe asking a bit much so i'd given them a week.....was told that there had been 2 final response letters sent to both my current and maiden surname both with different amounts and they weren't sure which one to pay, he said he would sent this to his manager and have a cheque to me within 14 days. I've only received the one letter, well 3 copies of the same letter with the same amount on it so god only knows where the other letter has gone.
I'm going to leave it now until Monday and ring again and see if they have got it sorted by then.
 I'm beginning to lose my rag with them a bit now, sorry for the rant!!!!0
