PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

I've just had an offer from Barclaycard, and would just like some advice.
I had the card for 20 years, but didn't use it much. I don't have the old statements to check if the amount they have offered me is correct, but it seems about right.
The offer comprises of refund of the payments I made for the PPI cover, refund of interest charged on PPI premiums, and 8% interest per annum.
Should I accept, does this sound fair?
With no proof of older statements you would not get very far without statements, the redress is correct as per FOS guidelines and if you think the offer is about right then I would grab this with both hands.
If you wanted to see if they owe you any more then you could try a Sar request this will cost you £10 and may throw other statements up but it may not, Barclays redress for 6 years without statements.0 -

Better to just put the complaint in if you have reasons:
I am currently switching credit cards and doing a balance transfer from this lloyds one. So would you recommend I follow it up once this has been done? Also, I called up to cancel my ppi and the guy at lloyds said my claim would be in jepordy if I cancelled my ppi...I should put in a claim 1st before I cancelled it? What did he mean??? Last question....after I have switched, how likely am I to be able to get hold of a copy of my actual signed agreement from lloyds? If it is still active, do they still keep them? Thanks in advance0 -
Hi guys,
I'm new here so apologies if i'm in the wrong forum etc but really needing some advice.
My hubby has had a barclays overdraft since april 2007. over the last (at least) 3 years he, under my influence, has called and asked to cancel the PPI on this a number of times. I remember that on the first occasion he was advised ok thats all been done for you.however i believe there were at least 2 phonecalls made in which they advised they had cancelled. on another occasion he was advised he must go to a branch directly to do this. - which he never did, he works a lot of hours and away from home mon - saturday most weeks so it got left then forgotten about. Anyway may/June last year he had some issues with his bank card only working at certain ATM's so called the contact centre and was treated very rudely, so we spoke with their complaints department, he gave permission for me to discuss and as i was speaking with their complaints i thought it would be good to include my concerns that his PPI had not been cancelled as they'd advised, and that having to go into the branch to do so was not convenient or fair. We have a letter dated 14/6/11 from barclays complaints department advising that it can be cancelled over the phone. Stupidly we made the assumption they would have cancelled it as it had been stressed so clearly that we did not want this PPI. I noticed 3 or 4 months ago there was still a DD for £7.60 payment protection being deducted each month. so nagged him to call. To which he was advised his PPI was cancelled and this DD was not to barclays. He did not ask who it was to, so i have again nagged him to call and find out. he has done this today only to be told.... it is barclays overdraft PPI!! and that he must go into a branch to cancel. He told them he knows this is not true, explained we have the letter stating otherwise and the whole situation. The guy he spoke to said he can only see 12 months back on the account so my hubby should go into the branch where they can see further back and do more. so to my knowledge this still is not cancelled.
So i need advice on what is the best approach to take now. I know we have been pretty stupid the last few years with this. i have no note of when or how many times we called. would it be best to do a SAR? this would include the account notes from each time he called right?
Should we go into the branch, or put our complaint in writing? i dont honestly know whether he was mis-sold this PPI, but based on how much he has been lied to and the fact that they have used underhand tactics to keep us paying this should we go for a refund of the full amount from the O/D being opened? also on top of that for the last few years (since they introduced it) we have pretty much lived in the £500 reserve... we accrue about £100 charges each month for this which only makes it harder to get out of. based on the fact that he has paid around £500 in unwanted ppi, do we have a leg to stand on with regards to the reserve fees we have paid? (ie if we hadnt paid this ppi then we'd be £500 better off which would mean we didnt need the £500 reserve) or is this just utter wishful thinking.
If you haven't fell asleep by now... thanks so much for taking the time to read this. any constructive advice appreciated. Want and need to sort out our financial situation and have no clue where to start
sorry i have started this as a seperate thread too, so sorry if this is not ok to post in here. i just really need help.0 -
They can only retrieve them if they can find them from the info you provide, try putting as much info as you can to help them.
Thanks amersall.
I sent them all my previous names, addresses and my dob and they say they still cannot find my details because they are in the archives and they cannot interrogate the archives without the agreement number.
I havent sent them an SAR yet because I was hoping they would be able to find my details. If I send them an SAR do they HAVE to provide me with my account details no matter how much searching it takes? or are they waiting for me to send them the £10 fee before they miraculously 'find' me??

Hi all,
Just had 4 letters acknowledging receipt of my complaints to Blackhorse. Dated the 27th, so they have only taken 4 days to respond.
Fingers crossed:)0 -
Just had a telephone conversation with MBNA and they have rejected my claim but are phoning me back as I think some paper work I sent is not scanned into the system (proof that I'm self employed).
I also telephoned Barclays (OD protection and loan) and my complaint is in the last stages and I should get an answer by the 16th.
The waiting is driving me mad!0 -
Hi guys,
I am thinking of putting in a claim for PPI which I feel was missold to me, but I'm not sure if I can.
I originally taken out the loan in 2004, but I no longer have any paperwork, and the bank, HSBC has said it was unlikly they still had any records.
I do know I had PPI cover on the loan as when I went to the branch to sign the paperwork, I remember questioning why it was on the loan documents.
I was told that if I wanted it removed they may not agree the new terms and then they gave me the hard sell speel of not having enough funds to pay off the loan if something happened etc.
What they never metined was that I had a cooling off period and that I could of easily cancelled the PPI.
The reason I am wondering if I have ANY chance of getting anything back is that I did lose my job within weeks of the loan starting, and was told that I wasn't covered under the PPI due to the T&C's of excess periods etc.
I then fell so behind with the payments of the loan, the debt was sold by HSBC to a debt collection agency, and I am still paying this debt off!
I do have my original loan account number, thanks to the debt collection agency.
Is it worth trying to make a claim after all these years for something I didn't ask for in the first place?!?0 -
What paperwork do you have? you need to have the loan agreement and the final statement to show the loan was paid off preferably.
If you only have the agreement then this is no help as the loan is closed, you could have cancelled this PPI so they need proof that you actually paid this to term end.
I have the loan agreements. There was never an option not to pay the insurance (it was included as part and parcel of the loan) and no final statements were sent to me.0 -

Hi, I used the template letter to write to HSBC to request my documents and they refused, sent back my £1 cheque and said I didn't have PPI. Am I supposed to take their word for it? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Abby x0
