I know people with Aspergers aren't thick!
That's why I mentioned her intellectual ability.
Seems I can't do right for doing wrong here.
I'm only human and prepared to admit my own falibility, It does no good to try and paint me as all bad, worlds worst friend etc. I am not, and have enough self confidence not to be upset by your judgments of my character.
If I didnt give a hoot I would not have posted in the first place. in the bigger picture it was not a public hanging offence. It has been suggested to me that others would have done a lot worse under the circumstances.

No-one said you were the world's worst friend BUT I think you'll agree you didn't win any prizes for world's best or most supportive friend yesterday either -especially by not accepting the apology -and deleting the emails.

As for "others would have done worse" That justifies what exactly ?

Doh! Just realised that going round with my laptop was futile anyhow since she does not have internet access.

Lol. We all have those moments.
How about lunch at an internet cafe? Or something like Starbucks, where they have wifi?

Just thinking that sometimes the hubby can be a good gobetween between warring women. Could your husband suggest she comes round as you'd mentioned that xyz was wrong when she logged on and he could take a look (and sort out deleted email issue).

Duchy Post is an excellent description of the way a person with asperges thinks or feels one more thing though people with AS cannot tell a lie(ok not every single one of them but it is a known AS characteristic) so if you are to do nikki's 2nd suggestion which is very good but in an AS way of thinking would your friend not see right through you and know you are lying and question outright why her emails were deleted?

In all seriousness, I can't understand why you would bend over backwards to maintain a friendship with someone who verbally abuses and physically attacks you because you won't let her borrow your laptop?!

Illness or no illness, she sounds like a nightmare who you're lucky to have gotten rid of.

I'd hazard a guess that it's because the incidents of the last day were not the sum of their entire relationship. 35 years is a long time, longer than some posters here have drawn breath. They will have a shared store of happy memories, a history that only they can relate to.

Additionally not everyone is in a relationship purely so that they gain material goods, favours or social standing. The ultimate relationship is with oneself, doing the best you can even (and especially) when things go wrong, and being really happy with the person you are, with no "Oh but"s lurking at the back of your mind, which will set up dissonance within oneself.

Actually, 35 years without a major bustup sounds short of a minor miracle! We expect couples and siblings to argue, so why should friends be exempt from this fairly inevitable fallout from human interaction?

It's Aspergers not asperges -and yeah I have a background both as the mother of a now adult Aspie and I've also worked with teenagers with the syndrome.
To answer your question .......No -not at all.
People with Aspergers take what people say at facevalue (see previous example about a meal out ) as most assume people are as (forthrightly) honest as they are

I know a twisted lying creep with Aspergers, not all are the same.

And he does have Aspergers before anyone says he can't have it Aspies are not like that.
