I have been having a carp few days - but Aliasojo gave me a good laff tonight. she shortened my username to 'mer'
now you all know my username is 'Meritaten' - but the name actually means 'Beloved of Aten' so Ali was calling me 'beloved'!
It made me chuckle - and I sorely needed that!
but it also made me think - I dont mind being called merit, or meri - hadnt had it shortened to mer before! - (roflmao).
made me wonder though - do you get annoyed if people shorten your username? are 'some' people allowed to use the short version?
I hate the short version of my given name - but people insist on using it! yet - I really dont mind people on here shortening my username...........strange that!
so before this gets chucked down to the Arms - how do you all feel about YOUR username? mind it being shortened or not?
Other way round for me.I hate people calling me by my full real name and always shorten it.I wouldn't want anyone shortening my username though -don't really want to be referred to as 'She'!!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

Too many historical conitations (sp) with those initialsSignature removed for peace of mind0 -
I don't mind anyone shortening my username, I usually get lips, don't think I've seen anyone use the full name.
My real name is Louise which I love, it was never shortened to Lou until an old friend got a new lady and she started calling me it, I dropped a few hints that I didn't like it which didn't work so in the end had to tell her straight!
From being a baby my eldest nephew called me weesy, he couldn't say Louise when he was little. When all the other many nephews and nieces came along they all called me weesy too and still do even though the youngest is 180 -

My DD is Hannah and we've always called her H. My name is generally shortened and it doesn't really bother me (depends on who it is).
Username being shortened is fine0 -
My user name is often shortened to lucy (on another site) but if anyone tries to shorten my given name they get short shrift!!Sealed Pot Challenge member 28

My OH username (met on the web) has stuck and as such I only ever call him that.
Also friends, family and co-workers. In fact only his mother does not.
To the point the other day someone asked for 'Mark' and I totally blanked to who he was talking about much to the gents amusement.
(The OH was secretly pleased at this relegation of him given name as he hates it - so it to be supplanted by me over time was very welcome)
Should mention his username is quite cool and not fluffybunny21/thorshammer/thedarkoverlord that kind of thing. All names have been changed to protect anonymity lol.
I dont really like my user name being shortened but dont get bothered by it. What does get my goat is being called Tygermouth. Happens loads. Instant angry face. :mad:Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -

I get called Ali, alias and jo on here so there's a few shortened versions to choose from.
I always call you AJ.
People don't usually shorten my username, but they do shorten my real name and I really like it when they do.
Most people assume I'm a bloke until they get used to my posts. I find it interesting sometimes actually, especially on the money boards.
I definitely get the impression that posts are taken more seriously with a more masculine username than a feminine one (e.g. PinkiePie etc)."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I forgot that one! :rotfl:
Agree about the masculine comment btw.Herman - MP for all!0
