I haven't posted enough here to get shortened, but I used this name elsewhere and often get called Bal or Balg, don't really mind since it feels friendly.

I feel the total opposite if anyone shortens my real name though; the most obvious short form is "Cat" and some not-very-nice girls in school used to call me that in a nasty way, accompanied by miaowing and scratching gestures... suffice to say I loathe that version and only like my full name! I'll put up with it if people shorten it, but if they actually bother to ask (90% of people don't), I tell them I'd much prefer if they didn't.

It makes me smile. Mostly because I get shortened to Sean. It's Sea. I'm a girl.

Sometimes I'm sure people would react to my posts differently if they knew I was a girl.
