The first user name I hadf on another forum got changed rather than shortened, so I use that on a number of sites.
My real name I see a number of different spellings and shortenings(?)
As long as it is all in good fun and not insulting I fail to see any issues0 -
Yes, my real name is Heather, but I really cannot stand being called H, Hev or Heth .
Otherwise, I am known as Mum, Auntie, Brown Owl, Miss, or occasionally kingfisher (in real life)........all are preferable to the above abbreviations
When people call me Mrs followed by my surname, I feel quite old(which I probably am by some people's standards
). I feel like my MIL, who is in her 70s.

I don't mind it being shortened but it feels a bit odd as it gets shortened to Jack & I am a girl!
In real life I only get called by my full name when people are unhappy with me, usually get called Nicky or Nick. I am a Nichola (with H in the middle, how often do I have to spell it!)
My Dad's name is Frank, he never uses it but in different area's of his life he will answer to George (old service friends), Jack or Jackie (his siblings), John (Mums family or newer friends)0 -
Jackomdj - I'm without the H and get wound up by people spelling it with
I prefer the shortened versions of my name, at work as there is already a Nicki I have to go by Nicola.
Also as there are several spelling of my shortened versions I don't mind which I get - personally I use Nikki.
My username is shortened to MDW as it's quite long to type out.
My DD's name is shortened down, but DH's family insist on using her full name which annoys her and me.Proud to be dealing with my debts
DD Katie born April 2007!
3 years 9 months and proud of it

My user name is a shortened version of a previous user-name elsewhere -so many people shortened it I started using their version myself.
My real name gets shortened too and I'm not over-keen but it's not a huge deal.
One thing that really does annoy me though is certain friends who I met originally on-line but are now RL friends who use my user name and not my real name face to face. If it's people I am meeting for the first time face to face or infrequently it doesn't bother me but people who know me well and know my name perfectly well -I'd prefer them to use itI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Don't mind in the slightest
and it is a bit long for people to type in full!:o
I do find it *funny* how different people use different bits as I get variations of Rising, Ashes or RFTA.....
I don't tend to shorten them if it's someone I haven't come across / "spoken to" on a thread before.
As others have said, it's more informal and a bit like (IMHO) wandering up to an older neighbour you've never met and calling them by their first name ... you just wouldn't do it!
I do struggle to get some names (esp if multiple words written with no spaces or caps) and it took me months to figure out someone's that I speak to a lot! I also worry that I'll spell some of them wrong ....:oGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

my user name here doesn't get changed. A user name else where got changed to the initials which I loved, and adopted.
My own name, often gets extended to its full form and I really do prefer the abbreviation! If I'm called my real name I almost panic!:hello:

My username rarely gets shortened and I don't mind if it does. I think it has only been shortened to Olo before.
My real name is only 4 letters long with 2 syllables so doesn't get shortened. I would hate it if someone did though as it would change from a female name to a male name.0
