my great aunt Maggie told me that her teacher insisted on calling her Margaret. until her dad went up the school and waved her birth certificate about and insisted that her name was 'Maggie'! and that was the name on her birth certificate - and Maggie said that her teacher was dead scared of her dad from then on - they werent used to irate parents then! lol

Ha, that ^^^ reminded me of a teacher who wrote me a letter re' my daughter's choice of reading material. Think Irvine Welsh. She used a made up phonetic spelling of my daughter's name, which was obviously based on the way she wrongly pronounced it.

The teacher was duly informed that I had purchased the books because they were on my daughter's Christmas list, I had also read the books before giving them to her.

I concluded my response by writing my daughter's name fifty times to ensure that the next time she wrote to me she would get the spelling correct.
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!

I often get referred to as Cat on here, which is fine by me :) The 04 refers to an important year to me. My name's Catherine and was only ever shortened by my dad to Cath, which I don't like but sounds ok from him IYSWIM. I hate being called Cathy, and one of my friends has just discovered this and calls me it sometimes but I find it rather funny coming from her. A few friends call me Cat but everyone else calls me by my full name.

My eldest DD has a 9 letter name which nobody shortens (shortening refers to last few letters of her name rather than first and it just wouldn't suit her). DD2 gets her name shortened loads, and also gets called Sophie Dophie Doughnut by my brother. She gets called allsorts and doesn't bat an eye whereas DD1 gets a bit tetchy about it!

My real name is also 7 letters long with no short form. If it is shortened, it ends in th.

It also begins with H and is a female name - I wonder if we share the same first name?
Heather? Could be shortened to H though

Yep, I'm Heather. :D H is quite cool, haven't been called that since school though.

Behave! :D Must say, Hev does beat Heth though.

I don't mind Jen but I hate Jenny.

We got a new manager at work once who insisted on calling me it so I blanked him for 3 weeks until he got the hint and went back to calling me Jennifer or Jen.

Max is actually a shortened version of my first ever username on a forum, which was just a made-up word that happened to start with the letters "max". A few of my friends that I met online at that time still call me Max, or Maxie, even though they know my real name, and a few people I met after that have taken to calling me that too. I quite like it. :p

My username is often shortened to Torry or TQ which is fine as long as spelt correctly. My real name is not shortened and anyone who tried would get short shrift
