:rotfl::rotfl:My son is Louis, I call him Loobstermy username is sometimes shortened, my real name can't really be shortened but sometimes its lengthened - either/both are fine with me.
I really have to stop myself shortening your username, many a time I've gone to call you BS
I really don't mind mine being shortened, it's usually to peachy, which is what I would have had if it wasn't already in use, and it's my RL nickname.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

This makes me think of something else. Does anyone on here have a short name which people lengthen incorrectly? I've got a friend whose first name is Chris (as in, that's all that appears on his birth certificate, he was never named Christopher) but he used to get teachers calling him Christopher at school and now he's an adult he gets letters addressed to Christopher, bosses and colleagues at work calling him Christopher etc. Do they think it sounds more formal or do they just like being wrong?!
(Conversely, I've got another friend called Christopher who hates being called Chris but everyone calls him that no matter how often he reminds people! They need to swap lives...)
my great aunt Maggie told me that her teacher insisted on calling her Margaret. until her dad went up the school and waved her birth certificate about and insisted that her name was 'Maggie'! and that was the name on her birth certificate - and Maggie said that her teacher was dead scared of her dad from then on - they werent used to irate parents then! lol0 -
I often call myself byl when pm'ing people. No one shortens it, but there are some great spellings of the user name I've seen through the years.
My RL name can be shortened, but quite obscurely and the shortened name only ever sounded right coming from one person...other people thought they'd give it a go through the years and whenever they use the shortened version, it always reminds me of Mark - my first proper male friend, who I last saw on my wedding day 12 years ago.
I think if it bothers you having your username shortened, then you need to log off for a bit. Live in the real world and stop worrying about other people using your made up name incorrectly!!!!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Ha, my DD is Melissa, I hate, hate, hate with a passion when anyone calls her Mel. All her friends know not to do it within my earshot, I turn into scary mum.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

My real name is 7 letters long and doesn't have a standard short form, but many people try to shorten it to just the first syllable which sounds horrible (it ends in th) and I do gently correct people if they do that.
My real name is also 7 letters long with no short form. If it is shortened, it ends in th.
It also begins with H and is a female name - I wonder if we share the same first name?0 -
I don't mind, but when people call me savvy that's a bit alarming because there are actually other savvies (but I was first!)
SS is better ...
Only my parents use(d) the full form of my given name ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

I usually get FM on here if it's someone who 'knows' me, or Freya's mum if they don't.
IRL my name is five letters long. 99% of people call me by my name, the rest either lose a letter or, in the case of my cousin, adds on 'ly' which used to bug me.thriftymanc wrote: »This makes me think of something else. I have been called 'BP' and 'Best' on here - nobody has called me 'pud' yet though!
I don't mind.
In RL, I don't like my name being shortened though, because it's not a good name to shorten!0
