I have been having a carp few days - but Aliasojo gave me a good laff tonight. she shortened my username to 'mer'
now you all know my username is 'Meritaten' - but the name actually means 'Beloved of Aten' so Ali was calling me 'beloved'!
It made me chuckle - and I sorely needed that!
but it also made me think - I dont mind being called merit, or meri - hadnt had it shortened to mer before! - (roflmao).
made me wonder though - do you get annoyed if people shorten your username? are 'some' people allowed to use the short version?
I hate the short version of my given name - but people insist on using it! yet - I really dont mind people on here shortening my username...........strange that!
so before this gets chucked down to the Arms - how do you all feel about YOUR username? mind it being shortened or not?

Username is fine but my actual name being shortened (especially by people I don't know) really frustrating. I always check with people about shortening names (but not usernames lol!).First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!0 -
Lol....you weren't kidding about the thread then.
Personally I don't mind shortened versions of my user name or my real name.
I get called Ali, alias and jo on here so there's a few shortened versions to choose from.
There's only one way to shorten my real name and that's quite normal so doesn't put me up or down.
Edit: I view people using a shortened version of a name as being friendly, less 'official' iyswim.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Most people either refer to me as MU or MessedUp (without the silly x's...), it doesn't bother me. Someone did once refer to me as Messy which was kind of fitting and quirky :rotfl:
IRL no-one calls me by my actual name (sounds too formal..i'll use it when i'm 40+ haha)) they all use my shortened nameThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You cant really shorten my username or my name. I suppose you could lengthen it but i'd rather you not.

Hubby calls me that sometimes. Reminds me of the Beatles song of which i'm not keen. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I don't think anyone has ever called me by my full user name!Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before0

I don't mind my username being shortened, I quite like the name "Barbie" (although I wouldn't inflict it on a baby!)
My real name is just one syllable so everyone tends to lengthen it."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
I don't mind being shortened to Tigs, I've got quite used to it. And of course I shorten OH to just Marley:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
