Weekly Spend Challenge w/c 19th Feb 12 Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

Good luck everyone.

    Hi everyone

I'm still working out my budget for the coming week.

I have my friends baby shower next Saturday and I am in charge of games. I know what I'm doing, but I need to get some little things as prizes, and also a couple of supplies to finish making the bits I need to!

I only have a couple of quid until payday on Wednesday, but that's fine as I don't need anything till then and have food, petrol etc.

But between Weds and Fri I will need to sort these prizes and get the last bits to do the games. I obviously don't want to spend too much! Also, pay is a bit up in the air due to the sick leave, so I've assumed the worst and hopefully I've underestimated what I'll get paid, but you never know!

    So, two questions please:

    1. Can anyone think of a fourth game? I am doing a quiz, a pass the parcel (very successful when I did before at my other friends baby shower, we love acting like kids!), a pin the nappy on the baby, and I would like one more... ideas gratefully received before I resort to the Americanised internet for cheezey inspiration!!! :rotfl:

    2. Anyone know of anywhere at the moment with offers on things that I can use for prizes? Last time I found some smellies in M&S all mini sizes which worked well, I'm thinking same sort of thing? Has anyone seen anything?

I'll work out my budget later on...

    enjoy your Saturday everyone!

    LC x

  • What about the game where you write the name of something on a post-it, then put it on their forehead... that person can then ask you all questions to try and guess what it is! Think you might limit the number of questions you are allowed to like 20 or something... Then you take it in turns... Can't remember what it's called!!! Maybe have a trial run with someone in case it's a flop ha ha!

Thanks for starting the thread again for this week!!! Is such a great way to stay focused!!!

  • Hi LC
Just wanted to pop on and wish you lots of luck for the next week. Hope it all goes as well as it possibly can....
I'm not good with making up games - at my sisters baby shower they only played putting nappies on dolls, and me being a miserable so and so refused to join in.
Do you have a h0me b@rgains near you? I was in there during the week, and they were selling boxes of lindor chocolates off for £1.99. I bought a load to put away for presents etc so they might be useful?

  • Hi

Can i join this please? Been off sick and recently gone back and had to suffer a month of only sick pay (had been off with stress - that nearly sent me back off again ) Now back to work but only part time, my choice but its not going to be easy. So challenges ahoy for me!!

On that note I would like to pledge £120 for this week - now £70 is a haircut and colour which is a bargain as the last time I did that it cost me £150!! The remaining £50 does include groceries. Also any money not spent out of that £50 will be transferred to my savings acount.
