Wong item sent to buyer

I sold a few items yesterday and received payment quickly for most so packaged them and sent them off this morning.
I received payment for another item this afternoon whilst I was out so text my partner the address and told him which item to post. He posted the item today and I have only just noticed he has sent the wrong one, men eh!
This is the first time this has happened to me so unsure how to proceed. I have just sent a message to the buyer explaining what has happened and what item to expect to arrive. I have asked if she would kindly return the item and I will of course refund the return delivery cost.
Now what do I do. This might sound like a stupid question but do I send off the item tomorrow morning or wait a few days to receive the other item back? If both items were under £10 then I would have sent off the item tomorrow but we are talking about a £50 item which I could lose if I send off the item and buyer does not return the other. Both items sold for around £50, although I had two of the item which was sent today so the other item has not gone to the wrong buyer.

Asking your buyer to return the first before before you post the second (correct item) could bring it close to two weeks before they finally get the item they paid for.
I would personally take a chance on the honesty of the buyer and post it.0 -
I wouldn't post the item out until she has sent the other back. I know she's technically losing out on receiving her item for a few days but it's too much to lose.0

Send the buyer the money or a returns lable right away so they don't end up out of pocket.
Give them enough to cover tracked postage & ask them to provide tracking details.
Give the buyer constant updates to let them know where their parcel is.0 -
Buyer replied and asked for return postage upfront which I was willing to do but wasn't going to send the postage before she replied to my message agreeing to return the item - that would be a bit cheeky. The item is only small and weighs under 100g so the postage is only a few pound. I have sent the return postge cost to her Paypal account so she has that before she even receives the item.
She said she can only get to the PO once a week on a Monday and wants me to send the other item now. What if in this case the item she was receiving was for someone else, she would be expecting that other person to wait until late next week to receive their item but wants her item right now. Fair enough if the items were around £10 but they both sold for around £50 so I don't really want to risk sending the correct item until I receive the other back.
I would have arranged for a courier but she does not have a printer to print the label so has agreed to send it back through RM.
It's a lot to lose risking sending the correct item, so I would like to wait for the return item before sending the other.
As for OH, I only called him a few names which he called himself anyway's and that was the last of itA home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -
It's not the buyer's fault though that the wrong item was sent, so I can see why they want the correct one ASAP - delaying might affect your dispatch stars.0

If I'd made this mistake I would send the correct item now. If I was the buyer I would want the correct item before I sent back the wrong one.
I'm taking it that at £50 it's tracked, so how does she know you won't use that tracking to say that she received it if you then don't send the correct item? She could then be out £50 through someone else's mistake.
You made the mistake, it's down to you to put it right.0 -

The item wasn't sent tracked because standard post compensation covers the price it sold for.
I know it is not the buyers fault the wrong item was sent. I never once blamed anyone else other than OH
This is the first time I have asked him to help me with eBay and it will definitely be the last. Mistakes do happen but I have never done anything like this myself.
The buyer wants her item sent straight out before she can return the other, yet she didn't know if her item had gone to anther buyer or not.
She wants her item now yet doesn't realise there could have been someone else involved and waiting for the item she received. Luckily I had two of the item that was sent to her so buyer 2 has been sent the right item but if I didn't then buyer 2 would of had to wait until the end of next week because buyer 1 can only post the item back on Monday's.
She seems very understanding and has accepted my appology. She even said I do not need to appologise as mistakes do happen.
I am always careful when sending items out. Usually when my items end on a Sunday, all my buyers pay before Monday morning so I go to the PO first thing Monday. This one time the buyer paid after I had already been to the PO and I wasn't home so I let my partner know which item to package and send otherwise I would miss the PO so the item wouldn't be posted until today.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -
I'm afraid they have you over a barrel. Why can they only get to a post office on a monday - is it benefits day?
I would be worried about sending another before getting the first back - especially as you did not send it tracked. If they needed the return postage up front - money must be tight - and they have the chance of a lovely £50 freebie staring them in the face.
Don't think you have much choice though - but send the 2nd tracked.
You could say the other item as also gone to the wrong person , and your waiting for that back too. But the longer you take - your feedback is at risk.
But as someone as said - its your error - not the buyers. Most are genuine - its just a risk you may have to take.0
