Wong item sent to buyer

Same with Amazon and the Kindle. They will send a replacement out, and hold the return of the faulty one against your credit card until it comes back (and they give you 30 days to arrange collection by their courier or return by post for a full reimbursement, your choice).
So the old "retailers wouldn't do that on the high street, now s*d off" ploy isn't going to work, I'm afraid.
That doesn't make any sense to me.
You ordered an item online and received a faulty one.
The retailer then sends you a replacement item at no extra cost, so you now have two items and only paid for one.
Or are you saying they took payment for the replacement item so you have paid for both? In which case, they have not sent the replacement item without holding payment for it.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -
Hermum - you tell me an retailer (proper one) that would send you a second item without the first one back, and i will show my rear in Woolies window.
That said, i agree with you to a point - the op as got herself in this mess. I tend to take a hit when i make an error - so would now be at the buyers mercy.
BUT in a world of reasonable people - buyer gets off their lazy behind - posts it back first class (at ops expense), and op sends replacement 1st class. Total days lost - just 2 or 3.
But we live in a world where everyone wants to blame somone, and no-one will go out of their way to do the right thing. It was a mistake - she did not do it on purpose.
Several people have answered the first point.
The buyer may not be lazy, she may not be able to get to a post office for all sorts of reasons.
Working long hours away from a Post Office, no transport to get to one.
Housebound, or have a couple of kids who she'd have to drag on & off buses.
All sorts of reasons why she's not in a rush to rectify someone else's mistake.
Nobody has said that the OP has done it on purpose but she seems to expect the buyer to be the one to do right first.
Couldn't the buyer tell the seller they will make the item available for collection & specify a day & time for collection, meaning a pricey courier collection?
Everyone makes mistakes, had I made this error, I would have posted the correct item out first class with stamps to cover the return & ask the buyer if they could pop it in a post box, as I wasn't expecting it to be sent back tracked.
This way the OP would probably have received it back by now.0 -
What I can not understand is that I first asked if I could arrange for a collection of the item but she said she does not have a printer to print the returns label then went on to say that she expects the return postage cost upfront (which I was willing to do and have done) so she could use the paypal payment to pay for return postage online - she would need a printer for this too.
I have not questioned this with her, instead I shall wait for the return of the incorrect item since she seems unwilling to have a collection arranged.
There are many reasons why she could not get to the post office until Monday but as I already said, she is posting the item back first class without tracking. So if she is doing this online then why can she not pop it in a post box, we all pass post boxes on our way out.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -

I've just had this happen with Amazon. The item they originally sent was faulty. They then sent me a replacement the same day I reported the faulty item, free of charge, and asked I return the faulty item. Obviously, if I never returned the faulty item, they would then charge me for the replacement, but as it is, they didn't.0 -

Something eBay sellers cannot do if the buyers fails to return the incorrect or faulty item.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -

(although it's way above what I'd expect tbh)
Ha ha - i would love to - but i can't find a Woolies0 -
Exactly - they will take money for 2 items - so none of the examples are valid. I also said 'proper retailers' - i've never heard of most of them.
Actually I am too with the JL example. I bought a camera which was the wrong model. They sent the correct model out and it was nearly 6 weeks before I could return the initial one......we were out of the country. At no point did they say they would charge my card, unlike Amazon who tell you it will be charged within xx days.
As for 'proper' retailers. I have heard of every single one of the examples given. Perhaps you don't want to believe it, but most reputable stores don't wait for the incorrect/faulty item before fulfilling their orders correctly.0 -

I can name quite a few retailers which I use for my online orders that arrange for a courier to collect the wrong/faulty item before arranging for a replacement to be sent out. I have never known a retailer to send out the correct/replacement item before receiving the other item back nor would I expect them too.
Ebay sellers can not charge their buyer for the replacement that is sent out, unlike retailers, so the buyer can end up with two items (if they refuse to send the first item back) and only pay for one.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -

My point was that retailers do exist that offer the service the correct way around.
You seem intent on being in the right, not a lot of people on here seem to agree with you. But you will no doubt continue to disagree.
At the end of the day, whether it's ebay, JLP or Argos, the buyer still needs to have the item they paid for. You sent the wrong item and are dithering to send out the correct one.0
