Your buyer is understanding, saying you don't need to apologise as she's aware that mistakes happen & yet you are treating her as though she's going to scam you.
I would have thought that the way a message is written you would be able to tell if there was another buyer. I would in those circumstances be happy to send the item direct to the other buyer & have them send theirs to me.

Hermum - you tell me an retailer (proper one) that would send you a second item without the first one back, and i will show my rear in Woolies window.

That said, i agree with you to a point - the op as got herself in this mess. I tend to take a hit when i make an error - so would now be at the buyers mercy.

BUT in a world of reasonable people - buyer gets off their lazy behind - posts it back first class (at ops expense), and op sends replacement 1st class. Total days lost - just 2 or 3.

But we live in a world where everyone wants to blame somone, and no-one will go out of their way to do the right thing. It was a mistake - she did not do it on purpose.

Return postage for 2nd class post would be £1.33 but I sent £1.58 for first class. .

Still no tracking? Surely now its in both parties best interest. She might be worried that you will claim it did not arrive back. It works both ways

I have been upfront and honest with her, told her there was a mix up and she will be receiving the wrong item. I have even sent return postage cost to her Paypal account before the item has even been delivered to her. If I was treating her like she was going to scam me, I would not have sent the return postage cost upfront.

It might 'only' be £1.58 but it is £1.58 out of my own pocket which I would not have sent if I thought she was going to scam me.

Why would she be worried about that, it's not like I would be able to open a case through eBay or Paypal to claim the returned item has not arrived.

If it did not arrive then the claim would be through RM.

To op and tech. John Lewis will send you the correct item first.

I bought a Magimix food processor £300 and got a different model, Cuisinart £280. JLP were excellent. They sent me the correct one and a few days later arranged their own couriers to collect the wrong one.

I purchased 2 different DVD boxsets from sendit.com, they sent 2 copies of the same item. I emailed them to inform them and they sent out the correct item same day, I received it before I had chance to get to the post office to return the incorrect item.

Also you keep mentioning what if another buyer had been involved, end of the day buyer 1's item has not gone to another buyer so there is no point of bringing this up and I have actually done that before and gave both buyers the money to post to each other rather than posting to me and me posting onwards which would have taken longer for them to get their items.

  • ASOS will send you the correct one before you send the wrong one back too tbh. They've done it for me twice. Get those bums out!! :p

(although it's way above what I'd expect tbh)

Same with Amazon and the Kindle. They will send a replacement out, and hold the return of the faulty one against your credit card until it comes back (and they give you 30 days to arrange collection by their courier or return by post for a full reimbursement, your choice).

So the old "retailers wouldn't do that on the high street, now s*d off" ploy isn't going to work, I'm afraid.
