As the item was not sent tracked, I have to trust the buyer to be honest when she receives it and send it back. There is a chance the item could get lost in delivery or the buyer claim to not have received it and have a free item.

I think it is best to hold on to the correct item until I receive the other back but I wanted opinions from others since I have never been in this position.

I don't know the reason why she can only get to the PO on Monday's but I bet she will get there quicker if I say I won't be sending the correct item until I receive the other back.

Return postage for 2nd class post would be £1.33 but I sent £1.58 for first class. She even said 'what if I add a label to the parcel and it takes it over the 100g, I would expect you to refund the difference'. It would only be 38p difference for 1st class so times must be hard. I would of course refunded the difference but the item weighs less than 50g when in a padded envelope so I know it won't go over the 100g.

  • Can't you arrange for someone like Parcel 2 Go to collect it for you. You arrange a time they will be in, pay Parcel 2 Go and send on the postage label (although the last time I had a return) I think the Parcel 2 go guy turned up with a pre-printed one just incase. I think others offer this service. It will hopefully mean your not putting the buyer out to much and mucking around with partial refunds etc for postage and will save you having to wait until the buyer can get to the PO on Monday.

Good luck, hope it works out in the end.

Expect them to ask for more than the postage as paypal will take a cut, or can you still "gift" funds?

If I was your buyer & felt that you were expecting me to con you then I wouldn't return until I had the item I had won & paid for in good faith.
I'm sure you expect all buyers to pay before you post to them.
Maybe the buyer has a life & doesn't live or work close to a post office. Where I used to work the little sub office we used to use at lunchtime closed down. To get to the main post office generally meant spending your entire lunch time in a queue, there wasn't any free parking so to pop in after work meant paying, if you could even get there in time and could put an extra half an hour on your journey home.

She wants her item now yet doesn't realise there could have been someone else involved and waiting for the item she received. Luckily I had two of the item that was sent to her so buyer 2 has been sent the right item but if I didn't then buyer 2 would of had to wait until the end of next week because buyer 1 can only post the item back on Monday's.

Could have, but this hasn't happened.

The buyer has paid £50 for something she hasn't received yet. Come on - that's not fair, and it's your responsibility to get it to her. If it was you in that situation, would you not feel the same way?

I have already sent the payment as a partial refund so buyer gets the full amount. If that was not an option then I could have sent the payment as a 'gift' as Paypal do not charge to receive Gift payments.

She does not know if her item has gone to another buyer or not. She was just assuming it hadn't.

No I would not expect the seller to send me the correct item until I at least provided proof of sending the wrong item back. Maybe I am just too understanding.

We are talking about two £50 items here, not something of little value.

I could have just waited until she received the wrong item then played dumb and asked her to return but I was upfront and honest so told her about the mix up before she even received the item.

I already know it my responsibility to get the item to the buyer. The item was posted yesterday (although the wrong one) - the same day as payment was received so how is it 'not fair' that she has not received it yet? The item was sent 2nd class, not Next Day delivery so should be with her tomorrow.

If she receives the item tomorrow and sent it straight back Wednesday or Thursday she could still have her item by the end of the week.. four days from payment is a reasonable enough time to receive an item without any item mix up.

She can't get to the post office until Monday though, so by the time you receive it & then send the correct item it could be the end of next week.
The buyer isn't going to care whether there's another buyer involved, she's paid you close to £50, I don't see why she should wait for you to sort out your mistake.

She would of had to wait if there was another buyer involved in the mix up so would of had no choice but to wait for her item to be returned to me and then sent to her.

If buyer 2 was involved then she would of had to wait until the end of next week to receive her item since buyer 1 can only post back on Monday's. I'm sure if I said there was another buyer involved then she would be understanding about waiting for her item to be returned to me and then posted to her. Since she can only post Monday's she will understand that others can only get to the PO on certain days too.

Thankfully there is no one else involved in the mix up but I don't agree with sending the correct item just yet, I wouldn't expect a seller to if it was something of high value. I am happy to send the item when I have confirmation the wrong item has been received and on it's way back to me.

What if I sent the correct item (tracked) and she claims the wrong item didn't arrive, I am then at a loss of £50. I am not sure how a claim with RM would go in this case.
