Old thread: 2012 Forum redesign

I've been using the new look since last night and, while the look is fine for the initial reading of a thread, when I go back to re-read or to check new posts, it's quite difficult to find them. Certainly, it takes longer than it did before. I've also noticed that it's difficult to differentiate between the name bar and quotes when scrolling quickly down a thread.
I personally prefer the names by the sides of the posts but it's not the end of the world if they have to be above. I do think that the sidebar on the side takes up unnecessary space though. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to remove it from the individual threads only? And if so, would that be an option? That way we'd have an extra 20% useable width and the sidebar would still be present on each actual board so no one would miss anything.
Also 'thanks' don't seem to be 'sticking'? I can thank a post, reply and refresh the page and my thanks has gone :undecided0 -
I like having the different non/stretchy options. :A Can we keep them? (No, really.)Context is all.

"Real eyes realise real lies"

I'm sure this has been mentioned but the obvious thing to fix the lack of space is to get rid of all the rubbish (ads) on the right-hand-side, at least for logged in users (does anyone ever click on any of it?).0

any chance of this going above the posts:
Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > MoneySavers Arms > The Money Savers Arms > Discussion Time > Facebook Parenting: For the troubled teen.
It's a real pain having to look so far up to see where you are on the forumBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
This new format gives me eyestrain. Can we please have an option to view in the old format?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I really, really hate the box at the top of each post instead of at the side. It's totally out of place at the top and spreads the info too much. It's much tighter and compact at the side.
Please change it before it's too late!"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
To get rid of the problem of the sidebar taking up so much space, couldn't it be collapsible like:
last24tech.com/forumdisplay.php?9-The-iPhone-PDA-and-GPS
(Click the blue arrow sticking out of the sidebar).
Created by this I believe....

Just noticed something else that seems to be missing, I think, as I cant compare to the old style.
I subscribe to a lot of threads or they appear in my subscribed threads because I have posted on them. One of the first things I do when I log on is go to my subscribed threads to see if any have been updated since my visit and I find this the quickest way to do it.
I am sure there used to be a small icon at the side of each suscribed thread that gave you the option to go directly to that thread where you last read it, ie first new post. That icon seems to be missing now from the subscribed threads list so when you click on the thread link it takes you to the most recent post. I have noticed the first unread icon is at the top of the thread when you link through, but as you have arrived at the last post then it thinks that is the last post you have read and takes you nowhere. Hope this all makes sense. Can we have the first unread icon/link back with the subscribed threads as it wastes time either re-reading posts you have already read or hunting for what you think was the last post you read, which means you may miss something. Some threads do move at a remarkable pace and sometimes my first new post may be several pages back.0 -
When viewing a board, the new style doesn't seem to have an icon to show that a particular thread is locked.0
