its not lying unless you asked outright and they didn't tell you then.
Else we are always constantly lying, we don't tell everyone every single thing we know/think do we?0 -
They are all correct but they are all devious and not the actions of someone who loves and cares for you (either partner or friend).0

It depends on the situation, be a bit more specific.0

Not necessarily, depends on the actions. Not telling someone that you, for example, ended up kissing someone on a night out with friends would be devious, but not telling them that you snuck lentils into their bolognese to make it healthier and cheaper isn't exactly the actions of a heartless partner/friend.0 -

Well I can't though can I ? Simply because I would have thought that they would have told me as in 'I have the right to know' 'It concerns me' Kind of view of it and they think they were not asked so never said kind of view and that is where the waters get muddy...0 -

So you are right and they are wrong.0 -
If you were not told something and they say ' I didn't lie to you, it is just I did not tell you'
or... 'I never told you because you never asked', so therefore it is not lying.
or... 'I thought it best to not say anything for your sake, I made the judgement call best not to upset you' is that not lying?
Which is right? Or is it how I feel just a technicallity in terms of words?
I'm not sure what you're asking really, but I would say none of the above constitute lying. They could however involve deception and in terms of infidelity, for example, would be breaking marriage vows. But generally speaking I believe lying to occur where someone deliberately says something that is untruthful.0 -
It's not straight forward lying. It could be counted as lying by omission but as kryl and burnout have suggested, we 'lie' by omission all the time in that we don't inform everyone of every little thought, in which case the specific situation is important.
Perhaps it's potentially a betrayal rather than lying. for example it may not be lying for your best friend to not tell you that your boyfriend made a move on her but you may see it as a betrayal not to be told.0
