Deliberately witholding the truth can be just as bad as an outright lie: not telling your partner you cheated is just as bad as lying to them if they ask outright.
There are degrees of "badness", obviously. It depends on what was withheld or lied about.0 -
I'm not sure what you're asking really, but I would say none of the above constitute lying. They could however involve deception and in terms of infidelity, for example, would be breaking marriage vows. But generally speaking I believe lying to occur where someone deliberately says something that is untruthful.
Tend to agree, they are all withholding information, lying is deliberately telling something that is not true0 -
I think for me personally , lying is when you ask about some thing for example "did you go to her house" if they did and say no then thats a lie.
I think tweaking the truth happens a lot in day to day situations even for little things
did you leave the butter out last night?
No.. well I don't think I did?
There for you are originally saying no but just incase your going to get figured out you are saying "I don't think"
Depends on the situation I guess and peoples personal feelings.
Quote a like
" You don't have to have a good memory if you are telling the truth" There for people who stutter , repeat question , stare into space when asked for the truth are figuring it out in there own heads. xNanMias - cyber granddaughter!

Maybe didn't tell you to protect you or because you didn't need to know. Could have been planning to tell you when time was right.0

omitting to tell the truth, or deliberately withholding the truth can be as bad as lying imo.
However, you say its a piece of info you thought you would have been told, or you feel you would have been entitled to be told, but the other person may not have even realsed that you would have felt that way and so possibly not a bad thing. without more information its a bit difficult to determine whether your sense of being wronged is entirely justified though, what's one for one is not always the same for the other.0 -
If its not a big deal, just say "In future, this is the kind of info I would like to know, so please tell me if it happens again."
Then if it happens again and you aren't told its officially a lie by omission, there you go!
(Although, it is very hard to comment when none of us have any idea what you're actually referring to. For all we know you could be expecting to be informed of your husband's bowel movements or upset that your son has got married without telling you and the reaction should be a bit different for those!)0 -
well what outcome do you want?
you can only tell them you wish you had been told and you feel like you have been lied to.
All they can do is say sorry you were upset (they don;t have to be sorry they didn't tell you, thats their call).
Telling them they are a liar isn't going to lead to any productive outcomes in your relationship with them is it?0 -
It's not 'technically' lying. But under some circumstances it can be just as bad as lying.
For example: Your friend has seen your partner with another woman and doesn't tell you. She isn't lying as you haven't asked her outright, but it's omitting important information.
It does all depend on the situation, and how bad it is on the scale.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
