I guess this could be back in the realms of me using and understanding specific terminology and the other person not doing so!

Do you know how vanilla mobile figure in all this?

yes - they are effectively a distributor, much like Dextra etc...

The retailer either has a direct relationship with the network or they obtain their stock via a middle man (the ditributor). If it's the former then the network pays the sales commissions and if it's the latter then the ditributor pays the sales commissions.

Distributors effectively consolidate all their customer orders to obtain purchasing power with teh network to be able to negotiate larger commission payments so that they can profit by taking a slice off the top.

For anyone wishing to contact me privately to ask me a question, can I ask that you email me directly as my PM box is often full.
  • I just got a deal with TMO. I currently have a T mobile PAYG and now I am getting a 12 months contract with T-mobile as well. I want to port my old number.
Are there any specific directives to follow when you ported you number and you are requesting a cashback? After all I read sounds like it could be trouble.
    Thanks
  • This is complete bunkum, I'm afraid.

The only link between the two (if one still exists) is that The Mobile Outlet may be supplied by a subsidiary of Carphone Warehouse as a distributor - however CPW does not own The Mobile Outlet and has absolutely no responsibility to The Mobile Outlet's customers...in the case where CPW's distributor subsidiary fails to live up to its delivery promises, it would be the retailer that deals with them, not the customer.

For the avoidance of doubt, The Mobile Outlet will be responsible for paying your cashback, not CPW. The distributor is simply a middle man between the network and the retailer and, in effect, the only contracts the distributor has is with the network and the retailer (not the customer).

Hmmm... am I to understand then that this merely means that CPW may be the middle man and sell TMO contracts to us as a secondary market? As in, say, CWP offers me half price line rental via cashback, but CPW in return takes out a contract with TMO and gets that phone for a 100% cashback, or something similar along those lines? Or am I just speculating on nothing?

Does TMO person still visit here? I emailed them yesterday giving 7 days warning before filing a claim. Am I wasting my breath?

They have been visiting this site, but have declined to post for about a month.

Expect a reason why cashbacks are not being paid by them soon.

Has anyone been informed that they are going to be paid by BACS recently?
That was their last reason for delays.

I wonder if they're still watching. I've given them 7 days but don't hold out much hope that they'll agree to pay me. I', fully prepared to make a court claim though. Have they actually defended a case yet?

Hello you guys - I seem to have been sucked in as well here.

themobileoutlet paid out on my first claim and I have recently sent my second.

Bill dated 26th February 2007. Posted 15th March (due to returning from 2-week holiday on 10th). Sent on the 15th recorded and arrived with them signed on the 19th March.

Now I make that an arrival with them on the 21st day after date of billing - or am I missing something? So within terms?

My query was that my cashback I received was only £94.50 as opposed to my calculated £112.50.

I decided to phone them instead.

The reason being is that they pay the cashback in 4 equal installments regardless of how many bills you send in at a time.

So seen as my first 3 months are £22.50 each and the remainder are £45, this amount of £94.50 is indeed correct. As it is 1/4 of the yearly bill.

I do find this a bit tight though, as if you fail to get the next set of bills in on time then you effectively lose £18 from the first cashback amount.

Another loophole they try to get you by!!
I completely agree with Gareth 83 in post 321. This 5 equal instalments is not what it says in the Terms & Conditions. I bought my phone at the end of August 2006 and the Terms & Conditions simply say that the claim procedure is a 5 stage process. The implication is that if you have to wait 4 months to submit your bills then you should get 4 months line rental back. It does not say that the cashback will be paid in 5 equal installments. I received £108 when I was expecting £180 for 4 months.

It's difficult to second guess what's happening at The Mobile Outlet reading these boards. It seems to me that they were pretty good at registering cashbacks and paying out up to Christmas, but that since then, anyone submitting claims is not getting acknowlegments by email or their bills back and any cashback payments made are very late. Either they have a cash crisis, or are simply inefficient. Once you get behind in a business like this then any late payments generate lots of extra queries and everyone's workload suddenly triples or quadruples as every unanswered email generates even more of them.
What doesn't make any sense is that if this is happening why they just don't either put messages on here or email their customers to try and get things to calm down so they can recover from the backlog. Either way, if you work for them it must be a nightmare having to face another day at work!!

    Well things are looking up.
When I posted my message on here last night I was concerned that cashbacks had dried up from The Mobile Outlet.

However, this morning I received the automated emails saying my documents had been received and the cashback approved for payment.
The claim, sent by RD, was signed by them on 21 March, so it's taken a month to acknowledge receipt.

As I haven't chased them, it looks to me now as though they are simply behind and maybe will catch up. If that's the case, the best thing to do would be to leave the staff alone to get on with it, however frustrating this is.

If a few more post their dates when they submit a claim and when it's acknowledged, board readers will be able to see if things are geting better or worse.

I'll post again when I receive my cashback with a reminder of my submission dates.

    Hope this is helpful.
