Hi BR. Sorry to hear you are still finding things tough on a DMP. I'm just catching up cos I've been burying my head in the sand for a couple of weeks over whether we will lose our tax credits from next week. I think we probably will although they haven't bothered to inform us. Its only £10 a week but that suddenly seems like an awful lot when you live on a tight budget.

Our DMP is currently spread over 16 years so I know how you feel about not wanting to review and I'm desperately trying to find ways to avoid it myself over the tax credits. But at the end of the day there is no point in being in a DMP if it is destined to fail because the budget is not enough to live on.

Do you have any emergency fund you can fall back on if things do get tight at the end of the month. I've decided I am going to try and live without the tax credits and without a review for a month or 2 on the basis that we have about £200 saved now that we can fall back on if necessary (although i really don't want to). I know it will only affect us for a couple of months though cos DD finishes nursery in July so we will be £52/month better off then and that will offset the loss of tax credits.

Hope you sort things out. But if you do have to temporarily increase the length of your DMP I just wanted to say that our creditors have all been fine with 16 years. We haven't had a single phonecall from any of them since we started the DMP in January and even the letters have stopped now.

Mr BR has said that although he can see the sense in ringing CCCS, he wants to wait a couple of months to see if we can cope first. Being the negative me, I'm not sure we will, but ok, we'll see. For me it would have made more sense to ring now as it's not that the stuff's changed rather than ring in a couple of months, but perhaps he's right and we'll end up not having to ring at all.

I'd like to say, by the way, that I'm sorry this diary is so full of negativity. It can't be fun to read, nor uplifting so thanks to you who are sticking with it, it means a lot.

  • hey don't worry about fun, my diary was really moody & negative (far far worse than yours) when i first started it. I was in a bad place but once things settle down (and they do i promise) you'll get used to it and you will forget about the debt (well ok you don't forget but it no longer takes over your life) i'm still here reading although been absent myself lately (won't bore any more diaries with it though lol)

He used to use lots of long words with me(he went to a minor public school and has a couple of degrees, whereas when we met I had 1 GCE O level and a couple of CSEs) but whenever he used one I wasn't sure of I asked him what it meant - which totally ruined his arguments :rotfl:.

    Loving your logic! :rotfl:

PS Does your mum use a computer. If she does you could - when you can afford it - buy her - and yourself - a web cam, then you could Skype her for nothing.

Or even Skype without the webcam like I do - then you don't have to be 'presentable'. ;)

No, Mum doesn't use a computer, even a dvd player terrifies her. I am able to chat with my sister and dad via email, but mum is the post or the telephone (the family live together though)

You are not full of negativity , we all have down times honey and they seem exaggerated when money is tight.

I love reading other peoples diaries to see how we all get on and help each other through our varying degrees of DMP etc.

I imagine to people that know me that I am very much a glass half empty type of person but I am trying to get better and some days are better than others.

Keep your chin up and we will all laugh, cry, scream along this journey together (and rejoice with a huge bottle of bubbly at the end:rotfl:)

It often seems to be mums who do most of the talking too, doesn't it? Well, I guess Skype isn't going to be the answer then...

Regarding whether to ring CCS or not, I'm inclined to agree with you just in case your present level of payments isn't sufficient if something comes up - but on the other hand it may not. Perhaps you could keep a close eye on it for a month (as if you weren't already!) and discuss it again after that?

Well, yesterday we thought '**** it' and went out for the afternoon, had lunch out and went to look at a couple of churches - the whole day cost £20 and yet it still felt very expensive.

To be honest, I am. Mr BR isn't though, he says he worries about money but doesn't show it, whereas I'm constantly worried that we'll run out before the end of the month.

Yeah, it was a nice afternoon, with the daffs out and the April showers.
We even did the British thing of walking in the rain having an ice-cream.
