    Hi,

I feel that the following is very useful to people who have pre-existing medical
conditions and want travel insurance and are 64 or under.

I have recently been struggling to get Travel Insurance for my daughter - due to her Pre existing Medical Condition - epilepsy. She is only 16months old and her seizures are not yet under control. Medication changing - daily seizures etc etc. With most insurers - you go through a medical screening exercise (a quick questionnaire with yes and no answers) and you know that you won't be insured by the end of it. (in which case you may aswell get bargain basement insurance)

Anyway- I have come across an insurance company ACE online travel Insurance, who set themselves aside from the rest. They have a simple declaration, if you get past that, you're insured.

    http://www.aceholidayinsurance.com

    Read the pre-existing section here:
    http://www.aceholidayinsurance.com/popup.FAQ.asp#MedicalConditions

    Copied from above link....

    Q - I have a medical condition, can I be covered?
A - Before you buy a policy, we ask you to confirm that you are NOT

receiving or on a waiting list for treatment in a hospital or nursing home
travelling against the advice of a medically qualified doctor
travelling for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment
travelling after being given a terminal prognosis

If you can confirm these and the other statements we ask you to confirm, you can buy our cover online.

I called them and discussed my position and they were superb. A very refreshing change.

They are not the cheapest, but are not expensive, and for pre-existing medical conditions i don't think you can beat them.

I am more than happy and love their approach.

    Just a thought,

These seem to be superb for pre-existing medical conditions, but you need to be 64 or under. They have a simple disclaimer and that's it. Not health screening line. worth a look

I think you will be out of luck. When my dad had non Hodgkins lymphoma a couple of years back even *my* travel insurance refused to cover me for cancellation of my holiday if his illness forced cancellation of our family holiday (even though he wasn't going). Their argument was that this was a pre-existing condition at the time of taking out insurance.

On a happier note lymphoma is one of the most treatable forms of cancer. After 8 cycles of R-CHOP my dad made a complete recovery. Plus his hair grew back with slightly less grey :). Best of luck to you and your wife.

Enquire with the main cancer charities, I remeber my aunt using them when she was going through treatment.

You may have the difficult decision to make as to whether to take out ordinary travel insurance that won't cover you for lymphona related problems if you can't find anyone to insure you fully.

  • The MacMillan nurse in your wife's treatment team should be able to help, and also advise on any special precautions your wife should take and how soon after chemo it would be wise for her to travel if you're going abroad. Best wishes.
