I'm a believer in fresh air to get rid of any lingering smells in the house.
My favourite air freshener though is Neutradol, it's based on the same idea as Oust, but costs £1 and I prefer the smell.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
I'd second the fresh air idea. Have a good hoover around to make sure you get any solid particles of ash up and then open your windows wide and let the breeze through your house. You might be chilly for an hour or two, but fresh air gets rid of the smells quickly and cheaply and without chemicals.

In addition to fresh air, buy some of those oil burners, some tea lights and some oil (M&S ones are excellent, especially if you get them on a 3 for 2 offer). The burning oil will impregnate all the soft furnishings you have and kills just about every odour I've come across
