I have just moved in to a house. Where the previous owner was a smoker.

I air the rooms when I can. But 2 of them still smell of smoke.

Will a bowl of white/clear vinegar in the rooms get rid of the smell?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Yours

    Calley

Don't know about the vinegar, but having looked at the vinegar website, it did say it got rid of odours.

I have had great success in the past with getting cig smoke smells out of carpet by using Bicarbonate of Soda like a 'shake and vac', although you may have to face the fact that the carpet will be tainted beyond desmelling. Also, you could clean off any paintwork with a sugar soap solution, which will get rid of the smell on there and have the benefit of whitening the smoke yellowed paint.

I know people who swear that half a chopped onion in a room soaks up cig smoke smells, and other people who say half a lemon does this too.

A peace lily will also soak up the smell of cig smoke. Burning Incense will also improve the smell - I recommend a brand called Nag Champa, available from market stalls and indie shops - lovely proper incense smell.

Launder any curtains or upholstery that was in the room.

In the end, any of these measures, and fresh air in huge amounts will win!

That's awful - tell her to smoke outside :D Yeah, I know how that would go down, but really.....
Have you tried those candles which are supposed to remove smoke smells - try lighting one next to her whenever she lights up, maybe she'll take the hint!
I do sympathise. My MIL is a smoker, and even though she does go outside, the room she sleeps in, and the sofa cushions where she sits still smell bad after she's been to stay - it must be on her clothes. I use a Dettox spray, also. She arrives next week

Check out the Cleaning section of the MEGA Index sticky at the top of the forum listing - cigarettes have their very own listing there :)

Put some cinamon and cloves in a small pan of water. Bring to boil and simmer. It really helps. Just be careful to not let pan boil dry! Repeat until pong goes. :D
