Excellent find - Freecycle without the admin!
I agree with Frugal - don't soak the wicker but a damp cloth will be ok. Just storing them somewhere airy will probably get rid of the smell, or dampen the cloth with water with a few drops of eucalyptus oil in. If there are any stains dab on neat eucalyptus oil

spraying lightly with neat vinegar and leaving them to dry will work too.

    Thank you all :)

I wiped them over with a soapy cloth and left them in my shed for a couple of days, brought them indoors polished and all clean and fresh :)

It really is freecycle without the admin lol! He brings home things most days if not everyday. Find yesterday was 2 upright clothe airers in good condition and a working dvd player :)

  • Hi All,

I'm a long time lurker on the board and expect if anyone can help with this it will be the people here!

I was recently given a lovely cashmere jumper by a friend...the only problem is that she is a rather heavy smoker and it was kept in her home for a while before I received it so it smells quite strongly of cigarette smoke.

What is the best way to clean the jumper to get the smell out without damaging it???
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
  • How about first step, give it a good airing in the garden?
    :A

  • I've tried airing but it still smells...what's the next step??

  • Bicarb sprinkled all over and left would be what I do next. I wouldn't know what detergent to suggest so I'm steering clear of that topic :)
