Lol thanx, all that reading would have given me a bad head,i wouldnt want my BM who is a size 20 in that dress,i dont think she would be comfortable but i also think she shouldnt be saying i want this colour and this style.best thing for them is to go out and try some pink dresses on that all 3 of them like.Im so glad i havent got this problem,a 2 and 5 year old are much easier to please they just want to look like princesses :rotfl:Its ok, its been a bit of a long thread :rotfl: both bm's were paying for their own dresses. The size 20 bm asked if it could be a dress she could wear again and not strapless. The op then picked the pink dress we have all been talking about, bm said she hated it and gave her ideas of dresses she was happy paying for. Hence thread. I think ha ha, it has had a few twists, the op has now sold something on ebay and says she 'could' use that money to buy the dress if she has to. 4pages condensed to what I think is the situ:rotfl:0 -

But not likely to be bridesmaids in the traditional sense

As a size 20ish girl who is soon to be a bridesmaid I was dreading dress shopping! I would never entertain the idea of wearing that first dress - strapless, clingy, pale pink and shiny! The bride in my case however (having known me for over 25 years) would never have considered it and luckily it only took til the 3rd dress I tried on to decide on it. Its long (covering my hideous legs!) and chiffon and glides over my lumps and bumps. But most importantly its got straps, proper ones, not those rubbish spaghetti straps that quite frankly do nothing for anyone!
All my bride was concerned about was whether I felt comfortable and whether I liked the dress. I think I must be lucky though as I'm the only bridesmaid - I think it would have been awful having to wear the same dress as a tiny person, or even stand next to them in photos!0 -
How about a compromise? would something like a wiggle dress be suitable for your slim bridesmaid, and a rockabilly style dress for the larger bridesmaid? They will both nod to the same era, and you can still choose fabric and finish, but with a style that will suit both.

Wanchai - I too wondered what a wiggle dress is! I also agreed a lot with kleapatra. What I am failing to understand about not only the OP but some others is why you would want your BM to look anything but beautiful and happy? I don't have any adult BM's but I even let my 13 year old BM choose her own dress so she could pick something she felt happy wearing.
Had I have chosen to have adult BM's then I would hope I would know them well enough to know what suits them and what dresses would make them feel happy.
To be fair to OP it does seem she has taken on board what is being said, but some seem hell bent on having BM wear dresses they have chosen, seemingly without consideration towards their friends feelings.
Brides, remember that yes, being a BM is an honour and yes, they can be a pain, but YOU chose them, presumably because they are either family or very close friends. Either way, you should respect their feelings and relish in having stunning BM's wearing fab dresses to suit them. There is nothing more gracious and heartwarming than a bride who wants her freinds to look their best. LEt's face it, all eyes will be on you as a bride anyway.
Phew, glad that one is off my chest.

Megan - to be fair, I don't think any of us would dream of putting our bms in something they looked awful in or were uncomfortable in. I gave my bms pretty much free range - purple and chiffon were my only 2 criteria (I paid). I can't imagine asking them to wear something horrendous! But one of my bms was not happy with anything that wasn't the dress she had decided on and tbh I was more concerned about my teenage sister feeling comfortable as she is slightly larger and at an age where she is very self-conscious. Sometimes there are more factors in play than being '"hell bent on having BM wear dresses they have chosen". I hope I never came across like this, I just haven't had the best experience with one particular bm!First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/14
