Well apparently they both sat down one night and looked at dresses and both like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WHITE-PINK-FLORAL-ROCKABILLY-VTG-PROM-DRESS-SIZE-8-20-/330599318666?pt=UK_Women_s_Dresses&var=&hash=item7dbcf5b408

I shot it down straight away. horrible is not even the word. But she wants that sort of style now, the 50's rock poffy dress.

oooo now I love that style and it is defo something she could wear again. I love the rockabilly weddings going on at the moment.

I think you both have very different styles going on. Have you told her you are paying now? I think you have the upperhand if you are. If she is paying, then I can see why she would not want to buy the pink - from her choice of dress.

Seeing as you now could pool their money and yours together you could go with something like this, sorry on mobile so not sure if it will work as a link. Pick a style you all like and then choose the bright pink colour you wanted?

  • OH doesn't want the dresses to be above the knee as he doesn't think it's appropriate for a bridesmaid ans as this is the only thing he's said about the wedding I thought I should let him have his way. lol. I think I'll just buy the dresses. The size 8 dress will have to be shortened anyway as she's about 5'2" or something so there might be extra material to make some straps with the excess material that is left over.

In what way not appropriate? Is maybe thinking of short miniskirts:rotfl:

I wouldn't rush and buy them until you have spoken with your bm. If she really does hate the style then she may be uncomfortable all day. Her choice of a dress was so very different to yours, is there nothing in between you could fine.

How long do you have we could all have a look for you, I know you feel your bridesmaid is being unreasonable but really there was a mix up over the colour of the pink which was no-ones fault, and she has asked for not strapless and something she can wear again if she is paying, I am sure we can help you find something.

That fair enough then with regards the length you either prefer long or short. The only thing is what is your dress like? The one you posted looks quite bridal style to me with the embellishments and ruching and you do want yours to be more spectacular ;) when I tried ruched dresses I found they weren't right at the bust or made me look fat round the stomach but if your bridesmaids are size 8 that may not matter! If you have your heart set on that one order them and try them on you'll either find they love them on and that's fine or you'll see they don't look the way you thought compared to model pics. I was surprised at bridal dresses how some I dismissed on the hangers were actually the nice ones and vice versa!

Do they have to wear matching dresses? Could they not have dresses in the same material but one with straps and one without? I think if you force her to wear a dress she is unhappy with then everyone will be looking at her miserable face and the dress will go unnoticed. Megan

Who would be a bridesmaid? I would rather be a guest, help the bride in any way I can and choose what I want to wear.

ETA: the truth is that the dress you have selected is not going to look good on a fat bridesmaid, esp if the rest of the crew are skinnies. Nor is it the kind that you could wear again, unless you are planning a retro Dynasty party.

I prefer the one you chose, it's beautiful. I can't see any reason they wouldn't wear it, particularly as you're paying. !

I wouldn't wear it (or any other strapless dress) for all the tea in China.

    2 good reasons: (.Y.)

How can anyone say the dress the OP has chosen will work when you have no idea what the bridesmaids look like?!
Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

  • I'm getting married 15th September. But by my thinking, I need to get the colour of the dresses sorted so I can buy the colour of the card that matches them for the invitations and then also buy the flowers and ties for the men. It all hinges on which shade of Pink we go for.

    This is my dress:

The dress will be poofier though as I'm putting a petticoat under it.
