I've heard such a lot about this that I'd like to try it. Trouble is I don't know where to start - is there a good site somewhere that explains what to do? There was a display stand in John Lewis with lots of little pots in pretty colours but unfortunately no one to answer my newbish questions.

I use Lily Lolo mineral make up (ordered online).
    What questions do you have?

First silly question - I have dryish skin and I can't see how a powder foundation can work - and how easy is it to apply and get a decent finish? Also how much puffs off into the room? I can make enough mess with loose face powder!

Presumably the eyeshadows are used just like ordinary ones?

I use Elemental beauty mineral make-up and love it. You should get some samples from them and from Lily Lolo and try them out.

You have to moisturise your skin and prepare it for make-up, especially dry skin (although I can't say much more about your type of skin as mine is very oily and not a good comparison).

You only use a very small amount of powder so it doesn't go everywhere. And if you get a good quality Kabuki brush it's very easy to apply.

As yet I don't have any mineral eyeshadows so can't give too much advice on it, but from what I have seen and from what others have said it does seem to be pretty similar to normal eyeshadows.

I've not used the eyeshadows myself so can't really comment but I am guessing why people like them is they aren't padded out with chalk etc and are pure mineral.

it's really easy to apply, less is definately more. As with any powder if you put too much on then it shows. I use a natural hair powder brush and pat a little bit of powder into the lid, pick it up with my brush, tap the brush on a hard surface so that the powder sinks into the bristles and swirl it on in circles. You can do layers like this until you have the desired coverage.
I found it hard to get used to wearing less make up BUT the upside is my spots and poor skin have got better since using it (due to the zinc I suspect). My skin feels like it can breathe as opposed to suffocated with liquid foundation.
Lily Lolo sell small samples so you can try before you fork out for a whole pot. Not tried Elemental Beauty but it is raved about on here.

  • I have some mineral eyeshadow and love it as it blends really well and looks very natural, but at the time time enhances my eyes. I wouldn't be without it now :). Although if I want a more "dramatic" look I tend to use Urban Decay.

Also use mineral foundation which is great as it's much "lighter" than liquid, easier to apply & lets my skin breathe. My skin is very dry, but I find that if I moisturise it properly and exfoliate at least once a week, the mineral foundation gives excellent coverage. I'd personally never go back to liquid foundations :).
  • Sorry to hijack the thread, but can anyone recommend me a relatively-cheap-but-good-quality kabuki brush/other brush to apply mineral makeup with? I have a brush from No7 but it sheds hairs which stick to my face -- super annoying when you're rushing to get ready in the morning!

I bought a retractable natural hair brush off ebay. No hair shedding for me and it was pretty cheap.

Link below (and it bought it from same seller)

I am a total beauty junkie and own far more make up than I need.:embarasse I own probably nearly 100 different brushes of all different brands. My favourite being Mac and Bobbi Brown - both great quality, but I also love Crown brushes which are really comparable to the higher end brushes. They have a really wide selection and I would recommend this Kabuki brush for mineral make up.
