I've also tried lilylolo and found it to be better than bare minerals- another i also tried. I have ordered from elf i got one of their cheek wash stick things which i highly reccomend along with their cover stick and fake eyelashes glue isnt so great but the lashes are lovely and natural (if fake lashes can be natural)
wasnt too impressed with their tinted moisturiser or nail varnish which was streaky even after 2 coats but was a really nice colour.
Post how you get on with their minerals if you order any as i was looking to get some next when i run out of my current foundationkeep calm and carry on :rotfl:

I found the nail varnish to be some of the worse I have ever bought. When I managed to get nails halfway decent- it chipped off the following day0

Thanks ever so much for the replies. Had another look at the e mail and it had a '25% off when you spend 25.00' code so decided to give it a go. So for 22.09 (including postage) I have ordered:
mineral foundation
mineral concealer
mineral glow
mineral booster
face kabuki brush
body kabuki brush
Didn't think that was too bad. Also Suki1964 said how impressed she was with the brushes and on other sites I've looked at you can pay more than that for the brushes alone! Will let you know how I get on!

Hi all, i havn't read through all this thread yet but I will before making any decisions.
New to mineral makeups,I was given a Loreal true match as my first mineral foundation which I thought was good (alot better coverage than my normal makeup anyway) then i bought two pots of Avon Personal match on ebay which have just arrived and it's awful! Just searched this forum and saw loads in this thread saying it's bad. It is soooo cakey and highlights every pore etc, it's like putting talcum powder on your faceAnd now i'm stuck with two pots of it :rotfl:
So i'd like some advice on the decent, more expensive ranges before investing in any. I managed to sample a Jane Iredale pressed mineral foundation and I thought it was great (especially compared to Loreal and Avon) but it was way too dark in colour.
So before investing in one of the moe expensive ranges ie
Jane Iredale (sampled - think it's great)
Bare Escentuals (not sampled)
Lilly lolo (i think thats one i saw mentioned in this thread) - not sampled
or any others reccommended, i wanted to see others advice on the matter.
I've got pale skin (ivory shade i think) and imperfections/ spots on chin (which i'd like to be able to cover etc), brown hair, brown eyes.
Also, any thoughts on whether loose mineral powder or pressed mineral powder is better?
Will have a read of the thread also but wondered which of the more expensive ranges people would reccomend for me
Thnx for any help.
Also, do the bare escentuals stuff only come in 2g pots for around £17.50? Isn't that really small and really expensive?
*confused*0 -
Don't know if this one has been mentioned before but I use sheer cover.
I find it fab. my skin looks natural and the concealer hides the back circles under my eyes a treat and it gets delivered to the door. My skin is quite oily and breaks out easy so this one has been a winner for me.I'm not a muggle...I'm just magically challenged0 -

Do read through the thread, its absolutely packed with tips and recommendation
Avon uses a lot of talc which is technically a mineral but as you found, too much talc and you get caking, rather like putting face powder on with a trowel
Jane Iredale is one of the best - for bad skin. This is the one plastic surgeons recommend for covering facial scaring and burns patients.
Bare escentuals is the most famous and they say the original. It was the one I started with. Love the colours and coverage but I found it made me itch. However I still use their mineral veil which is magic in a pot as far as Im concerned, It really does give an airbrushed finish
Lily lolo I didnt like. Cant remeber why I didnt other then I found some of them to be very gritty.
Elemental Beauty is what I have settled with, The healing foundation goes on matt and doesnt make me itch (BE has a bit of a shine btw) and has actually calmed my roseacea skin down. I get excellent coverage without too much work.
2g is the medium size. One of those will last me about half a lifetimeOk so perhaps 4 -6 months daily use if a foundation. If its a blusher - that will be a lifetime.
If going for BE then look at american ebay - a lot cheaper.
EB has some very lovely samples that are very very cheap and will lastweeks0 -
Thanks v much for that reply, gonna read through the thread in the next few days, make a list of all the decent sounding ones then see if i can get samples. Defo want to try BE though as the mineral veil sounds great too
Also is the BE starter kit thing worth buying:
http://www.bareescentuals.co.uk/id/prod_id_90026.asp
Just abit confused how it only comes in 4 colours, is the light supposed to be suitable for all light skin tones then?
And the BE website says the foundation starts from £17.50 for 2g but i see them on ebay here etc for £9 for 2g and here, for £17 for 9g (which is cheaper than the BE website says the price for 2g is)
Is it the same stuff?
Or i was thinking about getting this cheaper BE kit from ebay which comes with the 'flawless application brush', is this ok or will I need a kabuki too?
Thanks and soz, will shut up soon0 -
The starter kit is what I started with many years ago and I still have the brush and the bronzer.
Light is very light to med
Med - theres two meds - a beige one and a pinky one. I use the med beige, I have yellow undertones and tan easily but I can also wear the light.
The 9 gr - is HUGE. TBH untill you sort out the brand thats good for you I wouldnt buy it, it could be a false ecommony for now.
I like the flawless brushes. They give excellent cover and are easy to use. The kabuki will give a much heavier cover, you may want to leave that till you have the hang of application0 -
A question about finishing powder. I've been using Elemental Beauty since last summer and my most used product is the concealer (which I use daily) closely followed by the healing foundation.
I've had samples of both the Matt and the Dewy finishing powders and ended up ordering a full size of the Matt, though I don't usually bother with it. I still have a small amount of the Dewy sample left and am thinking of ordering the full size as I like the finish better (I'm 30 and my skin can be a bit dull - the glow from the Dewy one just about restores the illusion of youth)
However I do find that both versions of the powder feel slightly heavy on my skin. Not heavy as if I was wearing liquid foundation and a talc-based powder, but bear in mind I never really used to wear powder at all. I'm sure I can't have been applying too much, given that I've had the Dewy sample for MONTHS and have only used half of it!
I just wondered whether any of you who have tried other brands (which I haven't) might be able to tell me whether BE or one of the other brands might have a different "feel" to the finishing powder? I was looking at BE's Mineral Veil specifically but would welcome alternative recommendations. And how does the finish compare with EB's Dewy one?
Edited to say: and I'm tempted by some Lily Lolo powder samples as well.
(What's the best way to "try before you buy" with BE? If you go into say Debenham's, do they have brushes available to apply the tester products properly?)
ThanksOperation Get in Shape

BE's Mineral Veil is not mineral foundation, it is a finishing powder ("veil FOR minerals", not "veil MADE OF minerals", very misleading) largely comprising "cornstarch", as the Americans call cornflour - but I'm not up-to-date with the current ingredients. It goes on top of foundation to minimise pores (BE can show up pores spectacularly) and fine lines.
I haven't tried Elemental Beauty, purely because I have so many mineral foundations to use up and they just won't run out. I don't think that BE will be any better for you and it could actually irritate (bismuth) so that you can't bear to wear it (like me after I'd bought loads), so only try a sample size if you decide you must try it.
Jane Iredale seems to me to be finer than many others, and my loose powder foundation version doesn't cover as much, so it could be one to try - it's rather expensive but, as you probably know, a full size pot could well last a quarter of a lifetime, or a whole one, where us older folks are concernedI haven't tried the pressed version, many users love it.
