Just goes to show how different we all are and what suits one, doesn't suit another. EB is my godsend. But I think it is the lack of talc and that it contains allantoin which helps me.

    Talc is carcinogenic ;)

As for the BE bismuth thing - that was covered early on in the thread. I have exceptionally sensitive skin, and have had no problems whatsoever with BE.

I didn't like EB at all - just didn't seem to work for me.

Talc used to be problematical until 1973 when the law changed. It is a natural mineral, but the problem occurred as far as I understand it, when it was made into talcum powder.

I first stumbled on the pros and cons of talc via http://www.cosmeticscop.com/ and find Paula Begoun to be an excellent first resource for the science behind cosmetics. However the following info regarding talc and bismuth is really useful too. I've added the web addresses following the quotes - don't want to get done for plagiarism :o:eek:

Talcum powder is produced from talc, a magnesium trisilicate mineral, which in its natural form may contain asbestos, a known human carcinogen (any substance that causes cancer or helps cancer grow). Because of this association with asbestos, all home-use talcum products marketed after about 1973 – baby powders, body powders, facial powders – have been required by law to be asbestos-free. Asbestos can cause lung cancer and mesotheliomas (cancers affecting the lining surfaces of the chest and abdominal cavities). http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_6x_Talcum_Powder_and_Cancer.asp

Bismuth Oxychloride is a chemical that produces shine. Although the FDA has approved this for use in cosmetics, 75% of the users (mostly women) are allergic to this chemical. When you use a product containing bismuth oxychloride you are pushing small metallic particles into your skin, that will clog your pores. Acne and roseacea sufferers who use these products find that they also irritate and aggrevate their condition. You can tell if you are allergic if your face itches after application. This chemical is also not complimentary for use on older skin because the shimmery look creates a mask-like appearance that enhances wrinkles making skin look older and feel drier than it is. http://makeuptalk.wordpress.com/2008/02/18/the-best-mineral-makeup/ . I know this is an American site - but they usually seem to be quite advanced due to the litigious nature of the general public over there. Certainly if 75% of people are allergic it pays to be cautious.

To be honest, I'd prefer not to have either of these ingredients in my make up, so for me Elemental Beauty does the trick, it lasts well - certainly all day and into the night, without any shine - just a nice soft focus effect.:j

Hope this helps anyone looking to try mineral make-up ;)

  • Right I've not read all this thread (sorry too long for me) however I've read enough to know that I am going to order some EB Healing Mineral Foundation and some of the Allontoin Moisturiser that Jeannie recommended (when I find the link again :o )

I have problem skin like Jeannie so I am hoping that it will improve. I will let you all know how I go on with it. I was going to order the EB on the net but from the bits I've read its better to order on the phone to help with the colour choice, is that right?
Thanks eveyone for your input on this thread.

I know that Paula Begoun - The Cosmetic Cop, has been mentioned in another thread, but currently a subscription to her website is around $25 (£12.57) per year, however this can be cut to half that by typing in the code BP50 when applying:D. Personally I didn't check the 'auto renew' box as I'm not sure I'll need more than a year as a member and I'd be sure to forget by this time next year .

Still for around £6 it means I can access all the Beautypedia reviews, as well as ask questions, receive e-mail updates etc. for the coming year. I've already saved money by using Paula's advice when shopping for cosmetics - so I can't fault it :rotfl:.

If you decide to join you can then access a long article on mineral make-up, plus some reviews of the larger companies.

Yo KM - long time no post :D

How are you? The allantoin 'stuff' I found has been a godsend for me. I only use it at night - its rather greasy, but for me it heals and calms. It is a comfrey ointment, but this one is rich in the allantoin that I sought for so long to find.

Gonna try and find the link for you - if I don't find it, think it was with dscount vitamins or similar. Bear with me... not very IT minded :o

    Glad it worked!

I'm okay. Had a lovely holiday in Cyprus at the end of June which helped.

I take off my make up at the end of the day and put on that comfrey ointment - that one is rich in allantoin. Comfrey is surposed to be good for any skin problem, bruises and the like. But please do your own research as I am not an expert!

My skin is amazing - for someone of my age anyway! EB's foundation - I should say healing foundation has allantoin in it tool

Good to hear from you again.

Hope it all works for you too.
