Don't change the existing POP3 servers! You won't be able to receive your (non Plusnet) E-mail!

Oh no, I can see this thread dragging on now! :wall:

If it wasn't so bloody frustrating I would cry! You're right. I am not getting incoming mail on that acct now and outgoing is still like treacle even on a small jpeg! I have gone in and changed the incoming back to POP3 with pop.gmail.com as the setting. I have tried with authentication ticked, then unticked...and again nada.

I am done for the night guys....thank u all so much for assistance given but I've had enough for 2day.(I'm sure u guys have too)

When you read this tomorrow, make sure the POP3 login details for your E-mail are for your Gmail account and not Plusnet.

With the Plusnet SMTP server, you shouldn't need to use authentication so no login details required there.

Ok, with a clear head this morning I think finally I have got it right with incoming gmail and outgoing plusnet. :jOutgoing is still so slow but I can take that up with Plusnet later.

Thank u all so much for your help and patience with me. It is still bugging me that I can't pinpoint why the original settings suddenly stopped working, but I'll get over it ;)
Thanks again one and all. :T

Ok, I changed one account to the info on the Plusnet page...so no authentication etc req'd.
Good news..a largish attachment went :T
Bad news, it was like walking thru treacle ie took absolutely ages. Now every time the mail refreshes...the pop up box keeps appearing asking me enter the user name and password for that account despite the fact that it is already there and has worked to send that email! Even when I enter it all again and save it...next time up it pops again. ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Edit: This at least may be an easier problem to solve with Plusnet...tho of course no-one really supports OE anymore.

Sorry but although you have now sent an e-mail with an attachment, the problem is not solved.

Remember that the attachment was sent correctly when you were connected via Ethernet cable but not by WiFi.

It would be interesting if you posted speed test result for both WiFi and Ethernet e.g. here as there is obviously still a WiFi issue to resolve.

Ok the results are in ;)

    Wireless:
    Ping 45ms
    DL 6.87
    UL 0.20

    Ethernet:
    Ping 45ms
    DL 6.93
    UL 0.38

So both upload speeds are rubbish!

    Additional info:
Router is plugged into the master socket.
Filters are on extension phone sockets.
    No sky, fax etc

    UPDATE:
Called Plusnet again. They couldn't help with explaining the issues ie worked on ethernet/tethering but not on wireless. Nor that it now works with a different smtp setting or that it's slow. (took almost 7 mins to send a 5.45mb pdf this morn)
Said my line is capped at 448kbs which translates to approx 0.40 so upload speed is as it should be -on ethernet at least. Did say he would raise a poor performance fault and suggested I try the second router which they had sent me out in error when they sent original one (Forgot I still had that in a cupboard). So will do that later.
