Espresso, I have DL the inSSIDer prog but haven't a clue how to use it...can u give me an idiot proof guide pls?

When run it simply display the wireless activity in your locality, giving the channel number, and signal strength for each signal received. You will see your own signal (your routers SSID) and be able to see if any other routers on on the same channel that could be causing interference. Wireless channels do overlap, so you ideally need a channel that is not near to any other signals e.g. don't switch from Ch 6 to Ch 7.

Click on the 2.4GHz Channels tab around half-way down.

Are there many routers showing on the graph using the same channel as yours?

You can also check in the list view above.

No, mine is the only one!
    4 on channel 11
    8 on channel 1
    only me on channel 6

Just to eliminate one thing - in post 21, what was the max value you set the server time-out to?

As the previous poster said don't use channel 6 - try 11, or 13 if it will allow it.

Are there any other devices that could be interfering? Video sender, cordless phone, baby monitor etc. etc. - you have now proved that it is a wireless problem that it preventing the sending of big e-mails i.e. with attachments.

    Nothing different to the norm.

I don't think I need to change channels do I...I have it all to myself ;) On the RSSI column of that prog, everyone else reading is somewhere between -76 and -91. Mine is sitting around -45...is that coz I am only one in that channel maybe?

I disconnected from my home wifi and tethered to my SGS2. The emails WITH attachments went out from OE no problem!

When you were tethering to your phone, were you using Wi-Fi?

What channel were you tethering on?

No you don't. I'm not sure why it was suggested in the previous post after you said you were the only one on 6?

Sorry Rob, must have missed this post.
The server time out was set to 1min. I had changed it to 3 then 5 and no diff.

Hmmm..I used the portable wifi hotspot option.....which then disconnects from the home wifi and sets a hotspot up via 3G.

You can find information on how to change the SMTP server on the Plusnet website for your E-mail client:

    http://www.plus.net/support/email/setup/

Might be worth doing this anyway even though it probably won't solve your problem.
