You can find information on how to change the SMTP server on the Plusnet website for your E-mail client:

Might be worth doing this anyway even though it probably won't solve your problem.

Thanks Myser, was gonna leave that til 2morrow...getting battle weary here, but since u have been so kind as to post the link I will change at least one account just now and see what happens ;)

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. (email subject and account name) Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Sorry to butt in, I've not used OE for a while, according to my check-sheet, I always used port 465 ssl with Server Authentication.
    Move along, nothing to see.

You can change the channel in the router - in N America they are limited to 1-11 in the UK if you have a decent router (what model is it by the way?) it should be 1 - 13 - thats why I suggested 13. Further if it was a channel problem, I wouldn't expect it to be all or nothing, as traffic isn't as consistent as that, unless someone around you has a virus and is constantly sending out spam.

I go along with the suggestion to change the SMTP server back to plusnet, all companies have server isssues from time to time - its good to have an alternative, but generally I would use your ISP's servers.

Don't you find it difficult with all this stuff, much of which we have gone through before?

I believe that 25 is okay - use this with BT without issues - if you let outlook setup BT automatically it will use 25 - as you may know BT does use authentication

Hi, the router is a Thomson TG585 v8 and is less than a year old.
I don't think the channel is the problem so will stick with 6 for now.

Yeah, I am getting pretty cheesed off with it...but at least thanks to u guys I am more knowledgeable about what ISN'T the problem..lol

Ok, I changed one account to the info on the Plusnet page...so no authentication etc req'd.
Good news..a largish attachment went :T
Bad news, it was like walking thru treacle ie took absolutely ages. Now every time the mail refreshes...the pop up box keeps appearing asking me enter the user name and password for that account despite the fact that it is already there and has worked to send that email! Even when I enter it all again and save it...next time up it pops again. ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Edit: This at least may be an easier problem to solve with Plusnet...tho of course no-one really supports OE anymore.

    Finally, 78 posts later! :T

Wish you had tried that earlier on.

The pop-up you are seeing is probably to log in to an E-mail account i.e. POP3 authentication.

Did you only change the SMTP servers on all the accounts and not the POP3 ones?

Try unticking SMTP server requires authentication. The username and password it may be expecting is for your Plusnet Broadband.

How big is the file you are trying to send? Perhaps the Google SMTP server has a limit or couldn't cope.
If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button! ;)

Yeah me too, but was trying to do everyone's suggestions..lol I would still like to find out why the problem in the 1st place tho ;)

I changed the POP3 ones too..as per the Plusnet settings page.
Authentication isn't checked on Plusnet settings page so unchecked already.

The file was just a bog standard pdf 7500kb.
