You could try a different SMTP server if your Internet provider will allow it.
If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button! ;)

In addition to that, try deleting the gmail account and setting it up again manually - you may have tried that, but I notice when you tried Outlook you just transferred the existing settings.

Getting to the bottom of the barrel here - one other thing that may be worth your trying.

Routers have filtering etc settings, now I'm not suggesting that you have changed these, but just in case of a corruption somewhere, would it be worth reseting the router back to factory settings (don't know which model you have, but usually there is a small aperture you can poke a blunt pin into , hold down for 20 secs) It should reboot then, and you should be able to re-insert your own user name password etc - might be worth taking a note of yr main settings first eg PPPOA etc

From all the tests you have done I still suspect a corrupt OE folder. Have you tried either of the above?

What - the OP has stated that the same happens when Outlook is used, which is a totally separate e-mail client.

I think that you mean scraping the bottom of the barrel. The error messages need to be analysed rather than this poke and hope approach!

I'm not sure that your post helps very much. In actual fact some of these replies are based on looking at the error messages (eg reviewing changing email settings)- and based on several years of experience in resolving OE problems. Further if your read the post fully, you would see that the OP actually just imported the settings and emails from OE into Outlook, so if there was a corruption, he may well have just imported the corruption!!!

I suggest if you want to help, read the post fully, try asking questions and then making constructive suggestions which the Op can try.

Update: I have an older laptop on which OE has never been used. I set my accounts up on it and same problem...incoming with attachments absolutely fine as are outgoing text only. Outgoing with attachment of any size = no go.
I then deleted those and set my main acct up again with some info from gmail mail help using imap instead of pop and using different port numbers. Nothing worked when I tried that..not even text only.
    Back to square one.
I am slowly losing the will to live :(

Espresso, I really appreciate everyone's input into trying to solve my problem but am sorry to say that I find your post to be the least helpful thus far. If u can try to help solve this issue I will be ever so grateful, but if u can't then pls don't pick fault with those who are trying to help me out here. :)

You first mentioned an error message in post #19

One of the error numbers is 0x800CCC0F

but say that it is one of the errors that is displayed!

Carry on poking and hoping with the aid of the self acclaimed IT expert.

That error code is the main one I have been getting 99% of the time. Occasionally I see a different code.

Thanks for this - it really eliminates your PC - so that leaves us with the router or your ISP - give a try to resetting your router to factory settings. If that doesn't work then beat-up yr ISP or (tongue in cheek - change them )

PS Thanks for your note to Expresso, I found his comments really rather distasteful - maybe an Aston Villa fan (they lost!)
