Disabled on wireless:
6.84 and 0.14 so worse UL
Disabled on ethernet:
6.94 and 0.38 so not much diff0 -

Speedtest is only a general guide, it will vary, and no one number is very meaningful. (consistent low levels over a number of days may be more indicative)
.38 is what one would expect for a typical adsl line for example I get the same 0.38 here on both my ethernet and wireless connection (and the lappie & router are on different floors)
I would suggest a real test. You have said that the uploading attachments was real slow even for a small attachment. Rather than do speedtests, try actually sending an attachment when the AV/firewall are off - gut feel will tell you if it still slow when compared to the AV/firewall being on (test initially with an ethernet connection)?
The wireless speed may be another issue, which may be looked at later.0 -
Final update: (I hope)!
I changed the router and all is well with my cyber world again! :j
The pdf which previously took 7 mins took only 3m22s which I believe is about right on my speed.
More importantly, I only set my main account up with the changed smtp yesterday...but after the router change I can now send attachments again from all my accounts ie the others still have the original smtp gmail settings.
I know I should go run the tests again but tbh I am happy to accept that it was something to do with the router and get on with normal service
Thanks again guys......:beer:0 -
Thanks for the update, glad to hear that you are now sorted and sending at a respectable speed again.
So at least two of us were correct, that it was nothing to do with the SMTP settings!
Logically it could not have been the SMTP because sending attachments worked fine when using Ethernet and via your 3G handset using the original SMTP settings.
My detector was off the scale yesterday! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Well done Mr ccleudo, so it was Mr Mustard in the pantry with the spanner?
I hope you won't mind if I say I feel vindicated, if you know what I mean.
It was difficult but by process of elimination we got there, always much more difficult remotely, I reckon we may have sussed this with 30-60 mins on site, but there we are, we are all the wiser for it.0 -
I think it was quite a tricky one tbh. There were too many variables re working with ethernet and tethering but not wifi ...then working WITH wifi but not same smpt, then slow speed but for emails only etc etc. Had it been a consistent fault throughout ie same problems no matter how I connected, internet dead slow too etc then I could probably have got to the bottom of it myself reasonably quickly (as I usually do), but I was kinda dismissing the router being the problem just bcoz incoming and web were working as normal.
Hopefully we have all learned something from this thread tho...I know I certainly have
Btw, it's Ms. ccluedo0 -
I'd still recommend that you set all your account SMTP servers to your ISP's. It will most likely be faster too.If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0
