No he's a beagle not a spaniel. He's lovely though and has settled with us so quickly!
So he can still be a pure beagle even tho he's not registered but u can't then class him as a pedigree? When I sorted the insurance online yesterday it asked if he was a mixed breed or pedigree and I chose pedigree! Just want to make sure I haven't invalidated my insurance!
Think I will just block the number now, I'm sure I'll feel less panicky about it as time passes!
you were showed photo's of two dogs who were potentially parents.
the registration certs would have had names dates of birth and breeders names with reg numbers to verify.
sorry your dog may look pure breed but you cannot back this up in anyway. (i know this sounds harsh and dissapointing) but you cannot call the dog a pedigree he is of beagle type breed.
TBH with vaccs cert and everything i would call the number on the sheet and ask that vet to verify this pup has had its vaccs or not, as what they are doing/done casts doubts in my mind they have had it vacc'd wormed etc.
i wouldnt call the police but i would report it to the RSPCA these could be people who make a living buying pups for £50, selling them as a pedigree to make fast buck, then when you mentioned taking to the VETS got hot under the collar for some reason.0 -

They use Beagles in the US. Presumably they have seen lots of dog and cop shows on cable.
Ignore them. Beagles take a lot of work and flogging a pup that cute within a couple of weeks of being there, well, they just haven't got the ability to put a dog's interests above their own (and probably can't handle the Beagle's need to be heard - owowowowowowowow - and its need for attention).
If I had one, it would have to be a direct choice between it and my daughter before I'd consider rehoming as an option.
And even then, depending on whether she's being particularly hormonal or not, it could be a close run thing :whistle:I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Jojo - send DD over.. need some help with cleaning
On topic...
Heard some stories about people selling pups this way via friends as they do nto want to know where the pup came from/see the parents and home environment, so they pose as somoene who bought the pup form a "breeder".
Unfortunately in your case the "breeder" turned out to be back street breeder, dog has no papers so is not pedigree, as above "type of" but not pedigree, sorry. And you have paid a LOT for this puppy....
So is my Zara, she has no papers either - love her none the less as I am sure you will love your pup.
Any chance for a photo of the puppy?0 -

You wouldn't get help with cleaning, she'd take Zara out for hours and leave you to the housework whilst she burned a million calories. Then she'd eat all your chocolate.
Noooooo! Not Beagle puppy photos!!!!!!!!!!!
Must. Resist.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Phew.. iI had one of those and you know where she lives now - NOT>AT>HOME LOL
OP, photo of the beagle puppy pls, ignore Jo, she is NOT going to catnap him0 -
GR & Jojo - you two are nutters, but your daughters sound like mine... we have FAR too much in common! :rotfl:
OP, just to clarify for you. When people talk about 'papers' in relation to dogs they mean the Kennel Club registration papers, which will give you the dog's registered name (it's usually something very posh), and has the Kennel Club logo all over it.
It does cost the breeder to register the pups and I reckon you've got, as people say, a pup that someone has bred to a mate's dog, one of which has no papers if not both, so cannot be registered at the Kennel Club.
However, this doesn't make your pup any less lovely or loved! And as for being a drugs dog... give me strength! do they know how much training is involved in this?? or maybe they thought that as the dog had already been around drugs it would recognise them??:rotfl:
Anyway... pictures please!!0 -
The only papers I got was his vet papers confirming that he has had his injections. I'm so stupid that I paid cash and therefore didn't get a receipt!
Does your phone allow you to download texts? These are probably your only "proof of purchase" so I'd keep hold of them if you can.
In the eyes of the law, dogs are property so they have transferred ownership by selling the dog to you. I would perhaps send one text that clarifies this and tells them to cease communication, and if they continue to pester you I would have a word with your local police perhaps. A text along the lines of "I'm sorry but you sold me the puppy and he is now my dog, I have no intention of selling or rehoming him to anyone. This is my final word on the matter so please stop contacting me."
I'd be careful if they're local, so no leaving pup outside unattended, not tied up outside a shop, etc. and make sure anyone who walks him is aware of the situation so knows to follow the same rules. So he can still be a pure beagle even tho he's not registered but u can't then class him as a pedigree? When I sorted the insurance online yesterday it asked if he was a mixed breed or pedigree and I chose pedigree! Just want to make sure I haven't invalidated my insurance!
Purebred means he's not a crossbreed - he's just "pure" Beagle.
A pedigree is just a piece of paper mapping the lineage of a dog.ped·i·gree (pd
-gr
)
n. 1. a. A line of ancestors; a lineage.
b. A list of ancestors; a family tree.
2. A chart of an individual's ancestors used in human genetics to analyze Mendelian inheritance of certain traits, especially of familial diseases.
3. A list of the ancestors of a purebred animal"
KC registered means that the breeder is a member of the Kennel Club and registers their studs/b1tches/litters.
You could have a pedigree dog that isn't KC registered, but you couldn't have a KC registered crossbreed.
In general "speak", most people say pedigree to mean purebred so I don't think you'd be wrong to have listed him as pedigree on your insurance. Phone the insurance company if you're worried, say that you've been sold him as a purebred Beagle but haven't received any paperwork to confirm this and are you right to list him as a purebred. To be honest, I imagine the insurance would be happy for you to do this as the premiums are often higher for a purebred! My GSD has no pedigree papers but he's listed as a purebred GSD because that's what his adoption paperwork states, that's what the rescue believe and that's what I believe. He's registered at the vets as a GSD and I'm sure the insurance won't argue when they're charging an extra £10 a month for him compared to a "large crossbreed"!0 -
:oThanks so much everyone!
Im just hoping these people leave me alone now, they dont live near me. Well they live in one part of London and I live just outside of London so not too close. And hopefully they wont be able to track me down just from my mobile number and first name.
Im pretty sure if i threaten them with the police this should nip it in the bud, the lady was columbian and hardly spoke any english and the husband was middle eastern and also only spoke broken english so really the daughter was the was we were all communicating!
He was very happy when i left him this morning with a stuffed puppy kong! Only thing is, i gave him his dinner last night and his breakfast this morning and he still hasnt been for a number 2! I have been taking him out every hour and hes been going for a wee. He was being fed by the previous owners bakers dry mixed with pedigree chum wet food. I have changed this to science plan and have been mixing a bit of bakers with this for the past day trying to phase it out slowly so maybe thats why!
I got him a crate yesterday as well which he seems to like he was curled up in it as soon as we got back with it but i didnt shut the door on it. He wouldnt sleep in it though and ended up in our bed again
I want to upload a pic but im on my work computer, can i upload a pic from my i phone? x0 -
I think your phone would probably link to some kind of photo-uploading account - I can choose to "share" a photo and it lets me email, MMS or upload it to Picasa (mine's an old Android though).
Exercise can stimulate a dog to do his business so you might find a little run in the garden helps him to "go". How many meals are you giving him, at 13 weeks I'd recommend 3 meals at a minimum.0 -
Okay i will have a play with the phone and try and upload a pic!
I have been giving him 3 meals a day and yesterday my dad came round with a pigs ear which he demolished in about 5 minutes!
Also is 6 months old the earliest they can be neutered?0
