37 inch HD ready LCD with HDMI - Under £500

Not meaning to go too off-topic, but are there any issues with transporting LCD TVs? I vaguely remember hearing something about 'not laying Plasma TVs down flat' but not sure if was LCDs - I'm gonna order the 37" in this thread but my new flat isn't ready and it's gonna be on a slight angle to sit nicely in the back of my car!
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.0 -
I have been sweating for the past few days about purchasing one of these (37"). Soooo tempting, I think it has to be done. Sure the quality is not going to be quite Sony, however we have seen and read enough to know that it is also not poor in quality. Less that £500 it has to be done I think.
Regarding e-bay, just my opinion but, if I were selling these and I accepted am offer of £440 I'd be searching for that box that's the grubbiest, dirtiest and perhaps a model that is not 100% (ex-demo, returned etc,.).
Pure speculation of course but just think about it. You can pick up some awesome electronic goods bargains on ebay but through experience there is usually a reason why they are a little cheap. For example 4 years ago I pciked up a laptop for under £500 (which at the time could not be beaten). Laptop arrived and worked fine but the battery has never had or given me more than 5 minutes of life/use in it.
I'll order mine tomorrow I think!
Thanks,

Great thread guys and a nice looking set!
One question I have (just to convice me to press BUY)......there's a couple of mentions regarding PC use with this set.....
As the set will be mainly used for PC use I'm pretty picky when it comes to this issue ....from all I've read it seems I should expect 1:1 pixel mapping when running at 1360x768......is that correct?..... also from those that have connected their PC would you say the picture is really 'crisp' ,1:1?....
Sorry to bang in but this really is a massive issue for me.

I received my set on Wednesday and have spent many hours fiddling about with settings and connections.....
In general, the TV is an absolute bargain at this price. Specifically, though, I've hit a few snags. Here are my experiences:
When connecting an Xbox 360 via VGA the picture is irredeemably washed out. This is a known problem with the 360's implementation of VGA, apparently, which is a real shame. In all other respects, VGA gives the best results in terms of picture stability, video noise levels, etc.
The Xbox 360 HD-DVD player yields very poor results when playing standard DVDs, regardless of resolution - lots of vertical line and gradation problems. On a standard DVD player the results are surprisingly good. Some motion blurring is evident because the TV does not boast a noise reduction (NR) setting. This is not, in my opinion, enough to spoil the experience though - blacks are black and colours sparkle.
The Nintendo Wii looks fabulous via component video.
In my experience, Sky TV is best viewed via the Zoom 2 setting (no noticeable picture loss, biggest picture size without making everyone look chubby).
I watched the HD-DVD version of "Full Metal Jacket" and was disappointed to see that some of the final scenes were horribly pixellated on standard settings. This may be because the film is comparitively old now and the HD conversion process didn't quite come off for those partucular scenes (lots of flickering light juxtaposed with darkness). Elsewhere the film looked gorgeous. Waiting to get hold of another disk before drawing any conclusions.
Don't get me wrong - all HD TVs can cause you problems (why else would people be manufacturing calibration DVDs, as they are?). This TV is a steal at the price and Intekx were professional and courteous when I rang to rearrange the delivery day.
Edit: I've discovered that my DVD player (a Tevion thing connected by SCART) works perfectly if I change its video preferences from PAL to YUV. Don't know why - don't even know what YUV stands for - but the problem's fixed!I remember when you could smoke on the bus0 -
This is killing me! All I want is a 37 tv which plays good quality SD pictures through my NTL connection, thats all! If any tv is better than my old CRT TOSHIBA then I will buy it! This looks good for £500 but I just need to know that the SD quality through NTL is good or not??0

To be honest ( others may disagree ) but I reckon that you will be hard pressed to find any LCD TV that will match your Toshiba CRT when fed with SD material, let alone one at this price range.0 -

Someone got one with a 2yr warranty and free delivery for £440 !!!!!!!!
Although some were declined at this price,so you just have to keep trying.0 -
Anyone know the best settings for this LCD. Just received mine and I am a technophobic with no idea how to get the best picture.
