I'm trying to decide whether or not to put my name down for a stall at a craft fair that DS 1&2's old school is having in September. I've never done one before and am unsure whether any of my crocheted goods will sell and it costs $30. Plus, I really haven't got enough items so would have to go all out to make more. I shall give it some more thought and see if I become inspired. Any ideas, suggestions from anyone who has (or hasn't) done this would be great.

I'd say go for it as home made things go down a storm. Have you got a friend who makes something that could join you on your stall. Pity I'm not over there as I could knit a lot of things up.

How about taking orders for some of the things you make as well as selling some of your stock. That way you'll have extra time to make them and hopefully make more than you would without. You'd also be able to customise the items then, (different colours/sizes) and charge a bit more for doing so.

  • Thanks for the suggestions Granny. I'm still pondering but am leaning towards going for it. If I don't, I'll only wonder whether I should have, if you know what I mean.

Well, managed to get DS2 his school shoes today so not a NSD but a LSD. Hopefully I'll do better tomorrow.

DS1 has fish (well technically they're his but we all look after them). Anyway, one of them is a black moor called Benny (one of those with the bulging eyes) and he seemed to have got himself stuck in one of the boat in the tank earlier. Mr F managed to free him but we think he may have damaged his fin as he hasn't swum since he was released and is merely moving around the bottom of the tank (very very slowly). :(:( I'm not really sure what to do with him, but I guess we'll just have to keep an eye on him. He doesn't look very comfortable at all.

He has probably stunned himself so leave him alone and if he is only shocked he'll improve

  • So, I've finally managed to take some photos of my finished crochet in natural light! It's been so grey and miserable here lately. So one of my jobs for today is to load them to my Felt shop (and decided how much to charge). Here's a couple of my finished items:

    Colourful Galoshes.

    Monochrome Flower Scarf

For some reason I can't get it to publish the second photo the right way round!

    Hello Box of Fluffies, :hello:

Thought I would pop by and say hello all the way across the world.

Gosh, your crocheting is WOW, the galoshes are so cute :heart2:and the scarf is gorgeous. You'll have no trouble selling those.

Just a thought but could you pad the stall out with some home made soaps etc? I have a friend who does that and they sell a bomb, plus it is less labour intensive.

Anyway good news on your son's school/ new lodger/room...and post some pictures of the kitchenware, I'm a sucker for all that:D

Thanks for the suggestion Banwa. Not sure making soap is really my thing but I might look into it.

  • Mr F and I are currently facing some tough decisions about the business. Work has almost completely dried up with only about 5 days work booked in over the next couple of months and not much sign of much more after that. :( We've been propping the business up for a wee while, which we expected to have to do, but we can't sustain it.

As we're a franchise, we have the option of terminating our contract, giving the franchisor 3 months notice. We think this is our only way forward. Obviously I would need to find a full time job to pay the loans that we got to buy the business. Having done lots of calculations we've worked out I would only need to earn minimum wage to cover the cost of the loans and have a small amount left over AND we would have the rent from our boarder. For the past 6 months the rent money has all gone into the business.

It seems a no brainer. I'm just dreading have to tell the franchisors (who are lovely people) that we are terminating the contract. We asked for a meeting this Sunday to discuss our options.

    Apologies for the gloomy post.
