Hi Fluffies, I'm really sorry to hear about the business problems. What a horrible position to be in. Maybe the franchisors will have some suggestions or offers on Sunday? I see the business loan still has quite a high balance. If you do end up terminating your contract, will there be business goods to sell to help pay it off? Whatever you decide, I have my fingers crossed for you because you deserve to succeed x

On a positive note, I LOVE the crocheting, it looks really professional and maybe you could boost your income from making and selling things? Or do you already do that - I don't know what the Felt shop is. The craft fair will be a good testing ground and I think you should go for it.
LBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. Finally free of unsecured debt 21st May 21!

    Debt Dec 11: Unsecured £69,579 + Mortgage £59,948 = £129,527
Debt May 21: Unsecured ZERO! ZILCH! Mortgage £22,332

To be honest, we can't afford to wait any longer before making a decision. If we decide to hang in there, we will basically run out of money at the end of October. We also then have the added risk of business slowing down for Christmas and the resulting lack of jobs being advertised.

Thank you. :blushing: Felt is a NZ website (a bit like Etsy). I've had crochet for sale on there for a couple of months but haven't sold anything. Still early days yet.

Found it! I love the monochrome scarf and the dusky pink scarf particularly. Your prices seem reasonable too. If you weren't so far away those are exactly the sort of things I would buy for Christmas pressies in a few months. Have you thought about putting a link to your shop on your profile, like Kerri has? Not sure how many NZ/Aus members there are on this site but you never know......

I hadn't, but will go and do it now. Thanks for the idea.

  • So, today is a brand new day and the sun is shining. It was lovely waking up to the morning sun instead of the dreary wet rainy mornings of the past few days.

Mr F and I have set up a meeting for this Sunday with the franchisor, so today is going to be spent in the office preparing all the paperwork so we can go in the knowledge that (a) we're doing the right thing and (b) we have the evidence to back it up.

On the plus side I'm meeting a friend for lunch (my ex boss). :D I haven't see her for a few months so I'm looking forward to it.

  • I had a lovely lunch with my friend yesterday. We realized we hadn't actually seen each other at all this year. :o Oops.

I spent most of the rest of the day wholed up in the office data gathering and putting the info in Excel. Mr F and I are going to spend some more time today making it more presentable.

We're also taking DS1 to the optician's today. I think he may need glasses, an expense we can well do without right now, but he's complaining of headaches and not being able to read the board so needs must. I'm not sure how much they'll cost.

We stayed up last night to watch the NZ rowers in the Olympics. Fantastic. :D 2 gold medals plus one from the day before putting NZ 10th on the medal table. Not bad for a country with only 4 million people.

It's kind of weird because with the odd exception I don't know any of the British athletes, hence my supporting the kiwi olympians. The rowers train at a lake about 30 minutes away from us: we often see the boats out on the lake when driving past.

  • So, it's been a heck of a day today. Mr F and I had a meeting with the franchisors today, when we all agreed that the only sensible solution is to terminate the franchise. Fortunately, we have a good relationship with them and they know we haven't made our decision lightly.

To be honest, they were lovely. They basically want to make life as easy for us as possible, in terms of when we stop running the business. We've decided to give them and us a couple of days to get our head around things. Mr F and I need (well probably more me than Mr F) to do some more work on the best solution from a financial point of view.

Of course, I now need to update my CV and start looking for a job. I'm not looking forward to this side of things but something I need to get my head and brain into gear for. The interview merry go round gives me the jitters.

  • Some good news to report today. :D I finally sold my first item from my Felt shop. :j:j:j I'm so happy. It's made my day, which has, for the most part, been spent sorting out paperwork for the business and trying to update my CV. Not something I enjoyed. :(
