My ex's mum bought him condoms when he got together with me, his first girlfriend, aged 12! Still, it showed that she cared and it meant that he was prepared for eventualities. Shame they had expired a couple of years previously when he eventually needed to use one

Just to clear up - I meant this as a "buy them with the weekly shop and make them no more important than a loaf of bread, box of cereal, bottle of shampoo that needs to be put away"
Because really its not "shameful" or "embarrassing" is it - and the more matter of fact we are in our homes the more matter of fact they will be hopefully.
Asked my best friends son today (he's 15) and he says "Buy them, cos you only have to look at J Kyle to see what not wearing one can get you into" ................... and you know, I think he may have a point.

Ask him what he'd find more embarassing - going to the shops to buy contraception, or having to go to the doc's with an STD or his pregnant girlfriend!"What day is it?"
"It's today," squeaked Piglet.
"My favorite day," said Pooh."0 -
We've got 3 boys aged 22 -17 and for the last few years we've bought condoms off the net in bulk and kept them in the medicine cabinet, (we keep an eye on the best before date and replace) they know where they are and can help themselves. Buying them in quantity means they don't have to feel they're rationed and chance not using one.Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame

I think girls have always wanted sex just as much as boys (I know I did) but it wasn't as socially acceptable as it is now for them to admit it... though sadly it seems that certain old attitudes remain that see sexually active girls as 'slappers'
Actually I don't use that term often, I wouldn't automatically use it of a girl of her age just because they are sexually active. But as far as I can tell she has lower morals than an alleycat. I would be equally disparaging of a boy who behaves the way she does. As I said, he's a 'nice' lad, he's considerate, gentle, respectful and it is very clear that she takes advantage of that, screwing around with other lads while keeping him on a leash. The latest is that she's dumped him again, 3 days before his birthday, but still expects to come and visit with him at half term (when I will finally get to meet her). Her parents seem nice, but despairing, and DS1's dad won't have her in the house because of her behaviour.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Oh, sympathy, dasha!
Hope he sees the light soon, without you having to point it out. There have been a couple of times I've bitten my tongue pretty hard over choices made (it doesn't come naturally:p) and sometimes it has taken a looooong time for the penny to drop, but I think you keep a better relationship with your son by not interfering overtly. Thankfully my boys current girlfriends are all delightful.[0 -
Does a mothers responsibilities ever end? Not only do we give birth to them, feed, clothe & care for them, we are now expected to buy their johnnies as well! I just asked my 13 year old if he would want me to buy his condoms & he was mortifed.
I'd be making it very clear what I expected from him in the way of avoiding STD's and unwanted pregnancy, but they must learn to take responsibility for themselves at some point.0 -

To right, otherwise they turn into muppets like my bil who turn up at their mummies house every week with their washing and only pick it up once it has been ironed.0 -

Now I take a somewhat different stance, it's quite obvious that some of us should count ourselves lucky as mothers if our sons are sensible enough to use the ones we buy for them... I think DS1 will, at least I hope he will but I'd rather not be a grandma yet thank you very much young fella me lad, let me twist your ear and walk you to the shop first... Actually I'm planning to casually pick some up and put them in the basket while we're shopping, then send him to pay :rotfl:Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I think it depends on the age of the boys you're talking about. I bought some so my lads could get familiar with them before they would need them. Since they've been old enough to do the deed, they've made sure they've got their own supplies.0
