14 when I started going to rock / metal gigs (Rage Against the Machine / White Zombie / Soundgarden) that were pretty wild! Saying that, I think my friends and I made our own way in to town and then got picked up by somebody’s parents after the gig.

OP, you didn’t say how old your son is? And how far does he have to travel to the venue?
But, in all fairness I can’t see there being much sxx, drugs and rock n roll at an Alexandra Burke concert, so I wouldn’t worry too much!
  • 4 - it was the Wurzles and my parents (unsurprisingly) came too!
I was their biggest fan and far too many years later I remember the experience very fondly.

This weekend I have to take my daughter and her pal (both 13) to their 1st gig to see All Time Low at Glasgow 02 . . I have never heard of them but tickets says 14-16yo must be accompanied by an adult . . . better practise those dates of birth girls. :)

Wow! They must be so excited. I remember I was @ my first gig. :j

Re the DOB's I wouldn't worry, i used to work during gigs @ the Barrowlands and if the o2 is anything like them, they don't really give two hoots! There is nothing legal about this stipulation and they don't enforce it, so I don't know why they even bother puttign it on the tix!

Vast, vast likelyhood is that he'll be fine.
If he's got the clout to buy himself a bus ticket to London, he's got the clout to look after himself.

    ...

But I don't blame you for worrying!!!

He'll be okay, really! Just tell him to text you every hour or so, he doesn't have to leave a message but it'll let you know he's okay. He'll think you're a stupid fussy mum but if it puts your mind at rest, that's what matters. Of course you are a fussy mum ;), but not stupid, just very caring as comes through in your post. Good for you posting your concerns on here, there'll be lots of mums who can relate, and plenty of support for you :)

This is going to date me...

I was 14 when I first went to London by coach with my youth club to see the Beatles. It was second best cos they refused to take us to see the Stones . Seen the Stones since and at both gigs no-one could hear the groups due to so many screaming girls (including me :o).

'Gigs', or Saturday night dances at the town hall as they were then, had groups from nearby big towns and coke served in bottles with paper straws. We thought we were the bees knees in our 3/11d (20p) American Tan stockings and sugar starched net petticoats under full gathered skirts in either gingham or full blown rose pattern, and embroidered white gypsy blouses . The lads wore freshly ironed white shirts and jeans. The 'bad' boys that all the girls swooned over wore black shirts, lol. It was a good 6/- (30p) worth, and we all walked the mile or so home at 10.30pm in groups or couples, because it was safe to do so.

Nuff said, time for my afternoon nap ;)

Ha ha my Dad says the same thing! He saw the Beatles in their early days when he was 17 and says it was full of young girls wetting themselves and he couldn't hear anything for all the screaming!
