I was 16 and it was in the town where i live and i was dropped off outside by my parents and they picked me up after.
Today DS quick call "Mum can i go to London today to see Alexandra Burke"
OH said to me only a few days ago that when he was 14 he used to go to London (from Pompey) with his mates.
I said yes if he can organise the tickets himself and the buses and tubes etc...
Just had a text, I'm on the bus to London :eek::eek::eek::eek:
I'm worried sick, i know he is old enough to do these things but it doesn't stop me worrying, so i called him and asked him where it was etc, the lecture on pickpockets etc, he is on his own (this is the bit that worries me)
I hope he gets over this crush he has on Alexandra Burke..

Lol, I was 16, and on the front row barrier for Iron Maiden. I was getting so squashed until a rather handsome 6ft something, long haired hero stood behind me with his arms around me for the entire gig
(nice experience!!)
My kids have been going since they were quite small, I took DD to leeds fest when she was 6 (she fell in love with The White Stripes that day and is still a huge fan now at 14). Of course, its always been a bloomin good excuse to go with them and between us we have seen hundreds of bands in all venues.
DD will say her most memorable was at a very small hall near us where I took her to see Airbourne. There was a mix up over admission and at 11 she should never have been sold a ticket as it was a 14+ gig. After speaking to the promoters they acknowledged the mistake and she was whisked away to a low balcony overhanging side stage where she got to speak to, and high five the bands as they came out. She also ranks meeting My Chemical ROmance as the greatest moment of her life so far lol.
As for going on her own, she's been to the local venue with friends and her big brother. I think you just have to take a deep breath and let them to get on with it to some extent. I'm sure he'll be home tonight raving about his night!0 -
I was 14, mum dropped a friend and me off and collected us afterwards, had to lie
our way past the bouncers about our age(as they were in those days) to get in, we saw Queen (before they became famous) and it was great.
Sadly the venue burnt down a few years later, but I saw several groups there in my young days!Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

First paid one i was 16, but that wasn't really all that "big" given the fact it was in Glasgow where i'd been going myself since for years beforehand, although the first live music event i attended myself was much younger (going to the local radio 1 roadshows with my mates) - that being said there's a big difference between that & going to London for a gig, that on the other hand is a bit more nippy than Glasgow!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Bit of a late starter, I was 17 and it was Gary Moore in 1990.
Loved live music ever since.....It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
I was 48! I went to theatre type music shows in my teens but there wasn't much in the way of gigs where I lived. I started going with my daughter when she needed an adult to get into gigs for her favourite bands as she was too young to go in on her own. We have been to several since and although she can now go in on her own I would rather go in and listen to the music than wander around London on my own at night. A pattern is emerging though in that I always prefer the support bands and she likes the main bands.0

I was 16. Deacon Blue. With my older (18) sister.
We shared a pint of cider before they came on. First time I'd had a drink in a licenced place. Felt very grown up!
We were dropped off and picked up by our dad.

14 - Glasgow Apollo - Boomtown Rats - train in/back with skool mates who were both 13. This weekend I have to take my daughter and her pal (both 13) to their 1st gig to see All Time Low at Glasgow 02 . . I have never heard of them but tickets says 14-16yo must be accompanied by an adult . . . better practise those dates of birth girls.0

11, too embarrassing to admit who it was but it was at a big arena and my mum was there anyway!
First time I went without a parent was probably 13, but to a pop rather than a rock band. First gigs where there weren't seats was probably Travis, at about 15/16.0
